Has anyone measured the minimum ID needed to clear the calipers?

I know over in the Bronco Sport forum members have had success with 16x6.5” steelies from Discount Tire and @kingranchero had previously mentioned that 16s with similar backspacing will clear. There MAY be a 16" wheel out there with the offset to clear the caliper but unless you have one to test fit, I did, I wouldn't roll the dice on any wheel less than 17" in diameter.
My daughter has a '20 Escape that I bought a set of Focal 20 wheels and snow tires from Tire rack. I brought one over seeing if I could run the same on my Mav and it hit the f caliper. As I said, a different backspace could work.I know over in the Bronco Sport forum members have had success with 16x6.5” steelies from Discount Tire and @kingranchero had previously mentioned that 16s with similar backspacing will clear.
I currently have a set that’s 16x7.5 +42 that I can test fit. I also have both 25mm and 15mm hub-centric spacers if they need to be pushed out.
Did it hit the barrel or the spokes/center?My daughter has a '20 Escape that I bought a set of Focal 20 wheels and snow tires from Tire rack. I brought one over seeing if I could run the same on my Mav and it hit the f caliper. As I said, a different backspace could work.
It was the barrel.Did it hit the barrel or the spokes/center?
The Escape has a +50 offset so if the wheels matched stock Escape 17” wheels specs it was pulled about a 1/2” in on your Maverick.
Since I have hub centric spacers I’m not worried about the offset but rather the caliper hitting the barrel.
Thank you for the clarification. It was the barrel.
I believe the Mav probably has a larger brake rotor and thus the caliper is farther from center. They fit fine on the Escape, showed as fitting the Mav on Tirerack's compatibility program. Thankfully I borrowed one first.
Tim, @fordvideoguy , have you and Blake had any success with 16” wheels on a Maverick?Has anyone measured the minimum ID needed to clear the calipers?
Welcome to 2021. They need bigger wheels to clear bigger rotors.Ugh I loathe big(16" and up) wheels. They ride so damn rough. Give me 15s and a decent sized tire and its nice and cushy.
There are 16s that clear on the Bronco Sport so we should be able to as well.Welcome to 2021. They need bigger wheels to clear bigger rotors.
The sidewall on a 235/65 17 or 245/65 17 are huge. How much more meat could you want?
The Bronco Sport isn't rated to tow (and, importantly in this case, stop) 4,000 lbs like the Maverick is, and about 600 lbs less in payload. There are 16s that clear on the Bronco Sport so we should be able to as well.
The Bronco Sport also has superior off-road abilities and the same tow rating as the FWD MavsThe Bronco Sport isn't rated to tow (and, importantly in this case, stop) 4,000 lbs like the Maverick is, and about 600 lbs less in payload.
We all know 2021 sucks lol. But really for a truck I want 50/50 sidewall to rim. For a car, and the Mav is in between I can do 40% rubber to 60% wheel. Any sidewall shorter than 4 inches is just asking for damage.Welcome to 2021. They need bigger wheels to clear bigger rotors.
