Both are in production this month. I got a decision to make.

Not quite sure if the lightning will happen with the battery issues.

XLT hybrid lux vs Lariat ER

This was supposed to be a $39,000 lightning Pro when I reserved it however long ago. Of course, when the chance came up to place the actual order the pro was "sold out" and the Lariat was only about three grand more than the XLT.

They are not even the same thing. Consider you can almost buy three Mavericks for one Lightning and the Mavericks need gas regardless of flavor. This is very apples/oranges here.

For me, that Lightning cost more than my first house not even 15 years ago and is just a mental barrier I am not ready to break yet.

My brother has a Lightning Lariat. It is an amazing vehicle and since he uses it for his business it makes financial sense for him. There is no comparison between the two vehicles. Someone shopping a Lightning Lariat isn't typically considering a Maverick. When I ride in his lightning and then get into my Maverick, the Maverick seems like a Yugo in comparison; noisy, low powered, cheap materials. I could never ever justify spending 80k on any vehicle but I'm super frugal.

Well, like I said I was in the market for a $39,000 Lightning Pro.

That didn't seem so far out of the Maverick category until it became unobtainium.

When it came time to place the actual order, I figured what the heck I can always flip this thing... No they sit on lots at MSRP and nobody buys them.

Where Mavericks are still going for five over MSRP

That's a big thing. My dealer has had a Lightning Lariat below MSRP for weeks and no one is touching it.

I was in the same boat as you, got in the lightning line for an under 40k truck that might even get cheaper with a tax credit. I got out of line when I got my maverick, however my friend stayed in and took delivery of his, and it a very impressive vehicle.
It all boils down to which boxes you’re looking to check. The lightning is blistering fast, far roomier, and more comfortable.
On the flip side, it does consume a lot of energy, and is expensive. It’s not an economy ‘car’. If you’ve not been exposed to the current charging infrastructure, go to a public charging station and talk to customers. I went with my friend to one on the south side of Indianapolis and realized it’s hard to get the full fast charging advertised, many of the chargers were at reduced output. We didn’t find out until we connected and the process began. If you can charge at home/work that can all be mitigated until you’re on a trip,
I think the lightning would make a good second/third car that is fun to drive. Additionally you could also use it to replace an emergency generator for your home. I think driving it everyday you’d become occupied by maintaining a decent charge level in the battery. It’s a hog. We fell into the typical bait and switch, it’s not the truck we reserved summer of 2021, but it does have its place.

If you’re looking to tow anything with the Lightning, your mileage won’t be all that great. A guy on YouTube proved it by towing a car on a trailer. At 90 miles, the Lightning was almost empty. What if you run out of charge on the highway? Is a tow truck going to have an EV charging station? What if you’re on a cross country trip. Are you going to stop for a long time every 300 miles to recharge, as opposed to 5 minutes at tops for a hybrid or ecoboost engine? Not me! I love my little hybrid truck! At nearly 600 mpg, I can’t say enough good things about it!!!

I picked up my Lightning Lariat this past August and ordered a ‘23 Maverick and a ‘23 F150 after I flipped the Lightning.
The Lightning was an amazing machine for sure, just not right for me due to “current“ infrastructure.
The Maverick is a complete sh!tbox compared to the ‘23 F150, but I still chose it as my purchase!!! What the hell, right? Figured I’d give it a shot at 50% the cost of a similar F150…….and I am really enjoying this little truck, even after daily driving full size trucks everyday for well over 20 years. I really wish the 2.0T didn’t sound as bad as it does, but it only bothers me when it’s running.

I have an EB now. I agree, the engine sound hilarious.
And the interior plastic is just crap.

But I am flipping it for well over what I paid for it.

And I'm still excited for the Hybrid.

Bugatti for sure. It might actually appreciate. Sell to a Saudi price for a profit
And you're more likely to get it below MSRP
