What was the flex all about? I could never figure out why it even existed.Definitely an Escape with a bed.
We are just going to act like the Flex never happened. Nothing to see here folks! The "F" bomb was never dropped.
They had the PT Cruiser, Dodge Nitro and vehicles like that around that time. Plus FORD was trying to bring the euro Renault style MPV's to America without them looking like a van or the bigger SUV's. Now we have the 4 door Escapes and vehicles that essentially birthed out of those mini SUV's, called crossovers. Essentially, there was a desire to have square mini SUV's at the time and FORD went full send on the classic woody look trying to one up GM and Dodge. What was the flex all about? b/c Americans are too stupid to buy wagons! What was the flex all about? I could never figure out why it even existed.
More Flex-ish than Escape-ish
I test drove and ordered a Maverick while my wife was out of town. She finally got to test drive one last weekend, and said it was like her Flex she used to have. I first thought “No, it’s not.” But it pretty much is a Flex with a bed.![]()

Because station wagons are awesome. Especially when available with AWD and twin turbos. What was the flex all about? I could never figure out why it even existed.
The maverick is really an Australian "ute" styled like a truck. It's f***ing brilliant and is, IMHO, the best value on the market....but it's totally a ute.
