Maverick and Brat Side-By-Side!

I've been waiting to pick up my Maverick so I could snap a side-by-side with this Subaru Brat in my neighborhood, and caught a quick one on my way to work earlier this week, the day after taking delivery! Hope to get there again to snap a few more from different angles, but here's the one for now!

I had a BRAT for about 5-6 years as the 'fun winter car'... It was a hoot to drive in the snow, but sooo noisy, rattly and could barely do 65mph. It's amazing what we used to put up with and how far 'inexpensive' new cars/trucks have advanced.

Sure, if you think 30years, two doors, seats in the cabin vs in the bed, and decent power don't make a difference.

The Brat was really a two seat tiny truck with two seats in the bed. The Baja was basically a chopped station wagon, much closer to the new Santa Cruz in idea, but both cars were not very capable as trucks.

The Brat's bed seats were Sub's answer to the tariffs on imported trucks. With those seats it was eligible for the cheaper car tariff.

Dead on correct about the tariff. I had a Brat while living in Petersurg and Fairbanks, and just loved the thing. The Baja came out decades later, and for a while I really really thought about it...but by then I had my sights set on a future hybrid. I've driven both, and yeah, I would call the Baja a Brat Rev 2. Fun car.
