I was reading something else and found this interesting. Sales numbers from 2021/ 2022.

December 2022 U.S. Sales (ford.com)

Ford sold 108k "smaller" trucks in 2021, the vast majority of them Rangers.

But in 2022 they sold 131k, with
Maverick 74,370
Ranger 57,005

So sure, "maybe" Maverick stole some Ranger sales- but overall they're up 23k in "smaller" truck sales!

yea the maverick is cheaper and does lot of what the ranger does so it makes sense. There more 9-5 guys who dont off road then people that do.

I was a maverick buyer. I was not in the market for a vehicle. Especially not a new ranger.

I have a 91 ranger and a 86 f250 with lots of miles on them and I don’t think I drive 10k miles a year. I also drive my wife’s winter beater dodge Durango with over 200k. I did not need another vehicle….

But a xl hybrid is a value that can’t be passed up in my opinion.

The maverick brought me to the table when nothing else even gets me to turn my head. And im a real gear head car guy.

Even most of the 9-5 who do some off road can get more than enough prowess with the Maverick (me).

Well, and a lot of folks knew the Ranger was getting redone for 2024, so the people holding off for the new model probably cut into sales

I saw that Ford built 74,370 2022 Mavericks- they actually sold more but had to convert several orders to 2023 model. Maverick is TopGun!

I think it has lot to do with this. People holding off for the update. The Ranger really is the odd one out in terms of looks and features.

I will readily admit I'm a non-truck guy (too big, bad MPG) who bought a Maverick as a "commuter car that can also do light truck stuff".

Ford has more orders than capacity for Bronco and Maverick. Ford will not produce all the 2023 orders for Ranger.

How meaningful are sales numbers when Ford can't meet demand for any of these vehicles?

I wasn't really in the market for a new vehicle but when the Maverick Hybrid came out I realized it was all the truck I needed, plus it got about 3X the mileage as my Tacoma 4x4 V6 6-speed AND as a bonus my wife would be able to drive it, so I was compelled. Now I realize I'm comparing a 2013 Toyota to a 2022 Ford, but I really feel Ford does trucks better. More value, more usable features, far more comfort, etc.
