Over the years, I have taken Auto Train at least once a year from/to DC to Florida. I took my 23 in both 23 and 24. A couple weeks ago, I again booked on Auto Train. When I checked in, they informed me that my Maverick was now considered an "Extended size" vehicle and surprise, it cost more! Interesting that my Silverado was a standard size vehicle years ago. I guess my Maverick grew in the last year!

FYI, they consider a standard vehicle 190" long.

My Maverick is 1 inch longer than my Buick Regals I had before. That's crazy.

What’s our wheel base, 121 inches.
The Mav has little front and rear hang over.
But !
The Ford Maverick has an overall length of 199.7 to 200.6 inches, depending on the configuration.

My problem was the width. I had a Ford Ranger about 20 years ago which easily fit in my garage. When I got my Maverick, I had to spend $6K to install a wider garage door. Ford needs to make smaller vehicles.

The size of the Maverick is based on EPA mileage brackets, more unintended consequences, make cars bigger to "save gas."

When I was looking at the Mavs in late ‘23, I was hoping they had an extended cab, not a 4 door. No such luck, so I had to settle for the 4 door 24 XLT FX4 I have now, but love it! I still think it’s a tiny truck tho, in comparison to others I’ve had.

My Mav replaced a 2006 Honda Accord Coupe and was 13 inches longer and 1.3 inches wider. I was kinda shocked by that difference. I think there's something of an optical illusion at work with these - they look smaller than they actually are.🔍

Thankfully, it still fits my garage with enough room to walk in front of it.

I took measurements before making the purchase. The Maverick just fits in my garage with about 15" to spare. It sits in the same spot my 4-door Jeep Cherokee (XJ) used to be in, but the Maverick is 32.5" (!) longer than the Jeep.

So, the "Extended Size" imposed on the OP would likely encompass all vehicles longer than a mid-size SUV.

From your lips to the Ford CEO's ear. Here is what Jim Farley has already said. I laughed when I saw this, because all of us ancient Ranger 2-door owners spent a full decade asking where our next small truck was. Ford's literal answer upon discontinuing the Ranger in 2011 was (you can Google this) "those customers will buy an entry level F150".

Maverick is less than 7 ft wide and that is at the mirrors.
If your garage door was 6 ft wide I'd consider your garage a shed.
