Our first teenager is driving and we have two more that will be getting their licenses in the next two years, so our family needed a third (teen mostly) vehicle. I have been very happy with my F-150 FX4 and our 2022 expedition, and was intrigued with the Maverick as a third vehicle.
This weekend we went to a dealer in Lewisville, TX, and looked at a Maverick XL (Area 51, 10k miles, used). We did a test-drive and loved it, But once we started talking numbers, the dealer wanted an outrageous markup over new sticker price - and they would not budge. That was a no-go. We walked away and went 7 miles up the interstate to Bill Utter Ford in Denton.
Bill Utter had a new white Maverick XL available. My Wife and I took a look. He (the truck is a - he) is striped down and the only option is tow package. Talking numbers, the dealer and I were able to negotiate an acceptable markup - less than half of what the other dealer wanted for a used Maverick. the dealing and paperwork took about 4 hours from the time we walked in to the when we left with our new Maverick.
So far, the only accessories I've ordered are a good tonneau cover and fitted floor mats. My wife and I are very happy with the new truck and our teens are happy and relieved that we didn't get something "cringey".
I read all the treads about how people are waiting so long for their Maverick to be made and delivered. I guess I was just at the right place at the right time.
