Thanks for a forum member, I was able to drive ~7 Hours from Corpus out to Odessa to get a reservation that was passed on. XL Area 51 w/ 4k Tow and CP360

If you are in Texas, I cannot recommend Raul at Sewell Ford Lincoln enough. I haggled a bit, but got MSRP + TTL and the only add on was wheel locks, which I didn't mind since $99 was not a big concern when getting a non-reservation at MSRP. The finance department didn't try to sell me a single thing, it was an incredibly smooth process. I have not purchased a car in 16 years, so I was dreading the dealer experience.

Raul got my trade accepted sight unseen, for $500. My car ran with no codes/lights , but was pretty beat up over 16 years and had 230k on it. No issues with trade in whatsoever.

I still have my reservations for Hybrids ( whichever comes first ) but after driving the Eco I have some thinking to do.

My thoughts after a 7 hour ride home:

- I know you aren't supposed to use cruise control breaking in a truck, good thing it didn't have it because it is miserable not having it on that long of a trip. Already ordered new switches, and have a laptop with Forscan loaded and ready to get cruise going.

-Interior Material is definitely on the cheaper side...but even knowing that I understand others that say they stole their truck at MSRP. 100% incredible value.

- No issues with Carplay and the head unit, I know there have been some complaints. My old Toyota as a mid tier with premium audio, and had an upgraded stereo with Carplay that I loved , this one sounds fine for both podcasts and music.

-Road noise - maybe the complaints come from those that traded in a newer model vehicle - but let me tell you road noise at 85+ mph is going to be a thing, and it was about 80% quieter on the Maverick than my Matrix.

- Plastic is going to scratch. Had scratches when I bought it, I have added a few in the last few days. Don't care, not going to obsess, but purchased some 303 Protectant to put on all the plastic.

I may end up keeping this when my ordered Truck comes in, whenever it does, but it is wild to drive a car off lot and appreciate. Out the Door was ~27K, Carvana offered 31.4k. ( not selling it haha, was just curious)

The XL is an incredible value, the main things I feel are missing - HPR color ( but Area 51 is growing on me) push button, ACC, outlet in cab and bed. If I had these on the truck, I would pass on my reservations.

I had that matrix model a few cars ago! Congrats on the purchase. Youre absolutely right with your road noise thing. Age of car traded, and type, are huge. Our SUV kia vs my commuter sedan .. also from kia, is like night and day for interior quietness.

thanks for the review!

Side Bonus, I just ditched Geico after 16 years. Paying my 6 month premium in full Progressive was only about $60 more than Geico was...for liability only on my old car 😮 . I recommend to any new buys to shop your insurance a bit, it saved me about $50 a month over what I budgeted.

Push button is great. All it does is allow you not to have to scramble for a key. Not worth fussing about. Great gas mileage. Now that is worth fussing about!
Who doesn't love taking their gloves off in a snowstorm to dig out the key while their hand freezes? IA/push-button start is overrated! After all, Maverick isn't a race car! 😉

I 2nd this I had gieco on my maverick from October till last month I'm 33 with a clean record and had been with geico for 5 years and they were charging me $137 a month switch to progressive and now pay $91 would have saved more if I paid it up front but still alot better about $540 savings for a year.

Scramble for your key?? :ROFLMAO: Do you by any chance direct any of those informercials trying to sell you a product that does something people have been doing just fine for years where it shows people trying to do it the normal way in black and white and just completely fumble it for no reason?? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Really, I want us to get steps closer to Phone as Key, like Hyundai. If I could authenticate with my phone in the truck and drive off with maybe a backup NFC key card in my Wallet, that would be my dream. No more carrying around a set of keys!
Oh god no. Funny because my friends and I were literally JUST making fun of this. I mean, I guess we as a people are getting more and more complacent when it comes to security. So I can see why this kind of thinking is getting more and more common. Seriously, all of this "wireless" stuff and being able to start your car online and all of these "convenient" things are simply making it easier and easier for criminals to get into your vehicles.

I mean, sure they could always physically break in, but that at least LOOKS bad and someone walking by can clearly see someone is breaking into a car. Now, someone can simply wait around in a parking lot with a signal interceptor waiting for you to come close enough for it to pick up the signal between your fob and the car or just get a repeater and be close enough to you to send the signal from your fob to the car, or even worse with the whole phone thing simply hack into your account and not only get access to your car but also get an exact GPS location of where your car is. It's getting so bad that now they are saying to keep your keys in your freakin' microwave so people can't walk in front of your house with a repeater to get your key fob signal, LMFAO!!

Like seriously, it seems like anyone who even gives one thought to security at all is considered "paranoid" now-a-days, LMAO. Like really, is carrying a set of keys really THAT difficult? It's not like it's a 10lb chunk of iron for crying out loud... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I'll stick with the completely "arduous" task of carrying this little key around, oh man, I can feel my back breaking... :p

…. Push Button start is WAY overrated. I honestly much prefer a regular turn key. There are so many things that can go wrong with a push button car and several security issues with them as well...
Not so sure about that… I think you’ll find the key is simply a switch which is effectively closing the same circuit as pushing the button, given this is an electronically controlled engine. The mechanical key cylinder is actually an additional failure point compared to the button.

Talked with a Ford marketing person who said the key was a marketing requirement for lower trims based on customer market research. It actually adds cost over the push button Implementation.

The over-the-air codes might be a security issue if you live in a neighborhood where that sort of thing happens. Probably more of a BMW concern than a Maverick concern.

Congrats man! Push Button start is WAY overrated. I honestly much prefer a regular turn key. There are so many things that can go wrong with a push button car and several security issues with them as well. I honestly don't get the whole trend where everyone has to have something just because it's trendy. Push button starts is nothing new, race cars have used them for over 60 years. And that's where the trend started, some consumer sports cars based on race cars started putting them but they were mainly just for the race car theme, they didn't really have any real advantages over a regular turn-key, it was just a "cool factor." That's why I think it's kind of dumb how every POS grocery-getter has to have push button start like they think they are race cars or something. All of the concessions they had to make to make it work are just completely unnecessary in my opinion...
My 91 comanche and my 96 bronco are both pushbutton start, but thats because they are all messed up. I wish I had a key start. Thankfully my maverick will have a key.

If they are going to steal it, they are going to find a way. This is what my insurance is for. I don't leave valuables in my truck. You would probably disapprove of the smart lock on my home.

In the 90's thieves had no issue stealing a minivan from in front of my parents house that was locked, and we were home asleep with dogs that barked at anything. We didn't know until the morning and it was gone.

It is just a truck. Possessions can be replaced.

And I know you are joking, but yes keys are a PITA when doing physical activity like the gym, or going somewhere to run.

No one is forcing you, so if you like the physical key, no problems from me.

The last 5 vehicles I've owned had push button start. Didn't realize just how convenient it was until getting the Maverick.

Never had any type of failure with push button start either. I totally agree with the OP.

I enjoy the comforts of technology. I also use it on my home as well. And I don't feel bad about it. I like thermostats that can adjust themselves or be adjusted remotely, doors that lock themselves and garages that can open and close without me being present. 😂

No disputing smart thermostats basically pay for themselves in utility bill savings. Anyone that thinks technology like this is useless, is clearly stuck in 1955

Thanks for the great review OP!
