These nanny features are annoying. If I want it set to recirc, it should stay set to recirc. If they include nanny features they should also include a way to turn them off.
I totally agree. And it's why I wish they still made totally manual air conditioning systems in vehicles, At least as an option.

More and more it's becoming apparent that automotive technology peaked with the 1990's era volvo 240's.

In some climates, recirc all the time would build up a lot of moisture in the vehicle.

As stated in previous post and owners manual, this is a feature designed to prevent fogging of the windows and limiting visibility. If you have ever lived in a cold climate and are over the age of 40-50 you have probably seen someone in an import(and a few domestics had manual recirc levers too) car driving with windows nearly iced up in the winter. Those people had their air flow lever set to recirc, when it should have been fresh air. The only real reason to recirculate cabin air(as far as for engineering and design and optimal system performance) is for cooling in higher ambient temperatures: recirculating already cooled air will become even cooler rather than continuing to pull high temp outside air in to be cooled continuously, thus when in MAX A/C air is recirculated. Automatic climate control systems will also pull outside air after start up when ambient temps are high for the first few minutes, as they have a cabin temp sensor that will show high in car temp(due to sun load the internal vehicle temp is much higher than ambient with windows closed) , but after a few minutes will then automatically switch to recirc to cool quicker.

All great. Unless you're going down a dirt road and a vehicle pulls out in front of you, churning up clouds of dust. When I frequently encounter this, I want Recirc to RECIRC, dammit, regardless of whether I'm trying to heat or cool the truck cab. The stupid "we know better than you do" auto climate control systems totally ignore scenarios like this.

I hear yah, recirc would also help when sitting at a stoplight next to a vehicle with smoke rollin out the window that smells of skunk weed lol
