Is the tinted clear coat metallic paint (Alto Blue, Hot Pepper Red and Cyber Orange) worth the additional cost? Is the paint thicker than the others?

I have seen many posts showing a lot of paint chips in the non-tinted paint. I am wondering how the paint has held up for the tinted paint Mavericks out there. Has anyone tested the paint thickness on the tinted paint?

I’m wondering how difficult it will be to match the tinted clearcoat if a panel needs repair after an accident. Especially for a Maverick that is several years old and not garaged in sunny California like mine would be. Thoughts?

The paint might be a tic thicker but not by a factor that will matter. The "chipping" issue is a collection of many factors that come into play. Most just chalk it up to "thin paint" so they can wrap their minds around it.

But to the op's original question, does anyone here who has the more expensive coats want to chime in on your chip experience?

I was thinking the same. Xpel offers pre-cut ppf sections for the Maverick. To cover the hood, facia/bumper, fenders, mirrors, a-pillars and the leading edge of the roof will cost $1100 according to their website. I texted a local installer and they quoted $2400! It was an exotic detail shop though. 3M also makes sections for the Maverick for much less. It's all about what the detailers charge. This is beyond my skill set and I don't have a garage even.

I have a ceramic coated MY22 Alto blue. My detailer who did the ceramic coat was very happy with the quality of the factory paint. So far it has held up extremely well. That said, I ordered our MY23 hybrid with the factory PPF as added insurance.

Tinted clearcoats are not the same thing as Cyber Orange, which is a tricoat. That's the only paint that would be "thicker".

Still chips. Also the Ford/Duplicolor touch up paint isn't a terribly good match for HPR. Maybe it's the same color as the metallic basecoat but without the red tintcoat (the applicator has regular clear) it's too orange to truly match.

I think It 's time to revisit this thread as more people have more miles on their Mavericks and we might get more valuable info. I currently have an unscheduled Cactus Gray XL on order. I do like the new Azure color, but not enough by itself to justify it's price ($900). So, could the added protection of a tri-coat paint make a significant impact on the paint durability (ie chips and fade)? Im sure I will be reordering, so I am trying to get my new plan together.
