I wanted write a short report about few new toys/things I installed this weekend. Will add later some pictures.
1. Rear under seat safe: Pretty easy installation. There are 4 self tapping bolts, you place the unit in the designated position and tighten the bolts, that is it. If I had to do it again, I would use my power tool to tighten the bolts You have to be careful placing the unit in position. It took me few trials and I scratched part of the plastic. Otherwise super easy. The unit looks really well made and I am happy with it. I would not put any real valuables in it but it is enough to have peace of mind when you wallet your truck and you can put your belongings and paperwork in there. I am sure a master thief can crack that thing in few minutes but when there is a break in, they don't have these minutes. I think it is overpriced but I just went for it and don't regret it. Would I recommend it: Absolutely!
2. OEM Wheel locks: I installed those and am not happy with them. They stick out way too much and look awful. The key requires a slightly bigger wrench than the standard lug nuts, which is odd. Overall not happy and would not recommend those. If you really want wheel locks, go with some aftermarket ones.
3. Tailgate damper: Installation was ok and the part works as expected. Few points about the installation:
- As I took off the bottle opener, the part had left an impression into the aftermarket spray in bed liner. I think the bedliner guy, put them back in right after he had sprayed the bed and the material was still soft. If you have a new truck and intend to do both (damper and after market spray in bedliner), I would recommend to take off the bottle opener on the driver side and put the bolt back on. This way you will avoid the small cosmetic issue.
- The weird bolt, which goes into the oval hole in the tailgate, is kind of painful to place and fasten. There is few ways to place this part. Best is, to pre tighten the bolt and leave a small gap between the nut and the plate and than place it, turn it 90 degrees and hope that it grabs. If too loose or too tight, play with it until it grabs. Use the oval hole as counter area, to be able to tighten or un tighten the bolt.
- The actual damper goes pretty easily into the tailgate part. The other end can be tough to push in. I had to use a plastic mallet to make sure it falls in place.
Would I recommend it: Yes
Overall I am happy with these new toys. Let me know if you have any specific questions about the installation process or the actual parts.
