I don't have a need of a topper but if I did I'd look at a WINCH to pull off and on a topper. Have a 300 lb stand up trailer that could not be lifted by hand but a $15 manual winch at Harbor Freight did the trick easily. but would probably take 2 winches for a topper. Just have to have something to hold the top and pull out from under it. Electric winches are also available at HF in the neighborhood of $80 to $150..

I was thinking of lifting it up in my garage also. Lifting it by the canoe racks

Better measure the ceiling height. Mine would not be tall enough to back the truck out from under the lifted top. Garage doors also would be in the way.
