I towed a Ford Taurus once with a 1983 Honda Civic. Both cars survived, but it was only 10blocks or so. 0/10 don't recommend!
When in college my buddy's volkswagon beetle broke down and I towed him with my Honda CB500 motorcycle for about 2 miles. It didn't like the starting but was ok after getting moving. No lasting damage I ever noticed. Still, not recommended.

Considering it has the same tow hitch and brakes as the 4k, I’m sure the limiting factors are the transmission and cooling system. But that probably only comes in to play going up hill or higher speeds.
Does the hybrid have the same brakes as the 4k?

Towing a vehicle using a dolly isn’t the same as towing on a trailer. Rolling resistance is quite different for each.
True, but they both still follow the same weight ratings.

As for the topic, glad to see the maverick hybrid being put to work! I'm fully sold on the concept of a hybrid truck at this point, it just makes perfect sense to have that electric assist for both MPG, and added torque while hauling. Just such a perfect idea for a light duty truck.

If I recall in the early days of ordering, there were people putting in Hybrid 4k orders. They were dropped, and I recall some special offers going out to make up for it (like a discount to switch to EB). Or were those just EB with FWD, and they had to go to AWD?

In either case, I have to think the Hybrid could tow just as well as the EB. Electric vehicles typically have more torque, which is better for towing. The eCVT shouldn't be a limiting factor. I would assume it is cooling, which could be upgraded, and FWD which reduces traction under rear load.

Correct me if I'm crazy.

I think it is a conservative rating because of the FWD AND like someone above said, the crazy high speed limits in parts of the USA.

The tow rating is the "no compromise" any speed, any road number.

On flat land in fair weather at 55 mph the hybrid will tow 4,000 lbs all day long, not break a sweat, and be just fine. I'm assuming you use trailer brakes.

With my trailer, it stops itself. The hybrid truck is not doing anything extra when stopping. But you need to have experience to know how to tune your trailer brake controller.

The hybrid tow hitch only has a 4-pin connector --- you need the 7 pin round connector to hook up to a trailer with trailer brakes.
Most small trailers (e.g., travel trailers) under 3000 pounds, and with only one axle, will not have trailer brakes.
I am not a trailer expert, and I don't work in an RV dealership or anything but I've had a few trailers.

My hybrid has 4 pin, 7 pin, and after market trailer brake controller.

About $200 add-ons for top of the line.
It can be done for $100.

Is it possible the 2k rating is because of the size or number of the springs on the damper between the ice and the trans and a change would need to made to them to handle the additional torque for the 4k under some speeds or road conditions?

Look at it this way....

If the truck can go up a 20% mountain grade empty, it can pull a 4,000 pound trailer on the flat or gentle slope.

I really think the FWD is the limiting factor. All the power in the world doesn't help much if you can't transmit it to the ground.

Accelerating briskly towing off a dirt road (at a stop sign) while making a right turn onto a paved road I had wheel slip on the dirt. But never on pavement.

I am not doubting 4k on flat or gentle slopes or even or even steeper. The question. Boils down to what weight of trailer or even load on truck will exceed the momentary absorption capacity of the damper springs before the friction plate has to slip if the tires don't do so. Or does the damper need to have a larger capacity? What would be the effect of balancing the loads through the planetary if the pressure plate slips excessively.

Towed the mastercraft x9 with our hybrid. Had concerns with the front wheel drive and traction pulling boat out but it’s was a non issue even with the crappy stock continentals!!!
