And I was saying it's not at all like that.I am not advocatng for a mileage driven tax.
I was just making an example of taxing on mileage is similar to taxing for schools based on number of children in household.
Neither one is fair.

Ok then. And I was saying it's not at all like that.
It makes no sense except more money for the state. BTW, itās not $60 more, itās a flat fee of $100. I know because I have had to pay the extra for the last two years.Wow, so in Ohio using my current and soon to be new carā a hybrid (37mpg Maverick) and gas (29mpg Mazda6) that drives 15k miles annuallyā¦..hybrid pays $60 more in gas taxes/reg fees than the gas counterpart. What the F*** sense does that make?!
Yes itās $100 flat fee. I just laid out calculations for my personal situation without showing all the work. At 15k miles Iād use ~110 more gallons of gas in my current Mazda6. Multiplied by $0.385/gal gas tax and thatās about $40; meaning by using less gallons with the Maverick but paying a $100 annual fee, Iām out an extra $60 for absolutely no logical reason. It makes no sense except more money for the state. Primaries my manOhio is completely controlled by the republican party in Columbus for many years now. Last year they passed big increase on gas tax, $100/yr hybrid registration tax and $200/yr on PHEVs and EVs. So your comment doesn't hold water.
Sorry to report, they tried this year. It was defeated on a technicalityNo EV Tax in Texas. I would not have a problem with one as long as its a fair tax, like $100 full EV $50 hybrid/plug in. We need to maintain the road some how and I feel a flat tax would be better than most other ideas I have seen.
In MI... Note that as of Jan 1, 2023, state gas tax went up to 28.6Ā¢/gal. This means that the additional charge listed below is based on 9.6Ā¢.Its $135 in MI for an ev under 8000 pounds $235 if over 8000 and $47.50 for A hybrid
Powertrain type | Under 8,000 lb fee | 8,000+ lb fee | $ tax for every 1Ā¢ gas tax over 19Ā¢ | Added tax |
Hybrid | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
Plug-in Hybrid | $30 | $100 | $2.5 | $24 |
Full Electric | $100 | $200 | $5 | $48 |
Looks like WI is $75 for Hybrid, $100 for electric. This is crazy. I didn't know they charge more to drive hybrids and EVs. So they're penalizing people helping the environment. Not sure if any wisconsinites replied. I'm not sure if Wisconsin has that tax.
Wisconsin is a extra $100 on plates per year!Hello,
In Washington state, we are charged $75.00 a year for driving a hybrid. We have to pay this fee in order to get our license tags. Do you have to pay a fee in your state? If you do, how much?
