Hi all,

My 2.0 EB starting exhibiting some weird behavior in the fall... namely that it started not wanting to come off high idle. This happened both when I started the truck with the remote start and when starting it with the push button as well. It's not related to being really cold as it will happen when it's above freezing as well.

I've had the truck run for the full remote start cycle before it shuts itself down and the idle stays up at 1400-1500RPM. I've got in and the temp gauge is halfway to full operating temperature and it's still on high idle.

I took the truck in to one of the local dealerships and to say they haven't been confidence inspiring is a MASSIVE understatement. I figured it would be pretty cut and dried - let it sit outside for half a day, hook up all the diagnostics, and see which sensor is flaky and needs to be replaced. Apparently not... the first time they completely didn't understand the problem and told me the truck was fine. The second time after an explicit conversation with the Service Manager who assured me that he understood and would oversee their efforts himself, they proceeded to note the behavior but without any diagnostics hooked up... and then after it was all warm and they key cycled it, the behavior didn't happen again so they said it was functioning properly.

I'm getting pretty frustrated by the whole thing and am hoping maybe someone else on here has experienced this behavior, and if so can provide insight into what the fix was.

How long does it high idle? 10, 15, 20 minutes or indefinitely? Also can you please define cold weather. I see you are from Alberta and it can get pretty cold their.

Do you have the optional block heater that was available to the Canadian market?

It seems to vary... most of the time it will stay at high idle until I quickly shift it into neutral where it will slowly come down to a reasonable idle so I can throw it in drive. I believe there is a failsafe with the remote start that shuts the vehicle down after 10 or 15 minutes... and it has high idled all the way through that cycle if I let it. Other times it might high idle for 5 minutes and then come down. Other times it might behave as it's "supposed" to and come down after 90 seconds.

IMHO, based on all the vehicles I've owned in my lifetime (and I currently have two other turbocharged engine vehicles), the high idle should last no more than 1-1/2 to 2 minutes at most. The secondary air pumps and whatever else work through their process, and even when it's extremely cold, that cycle should not last more than a couple minutes.

In my case, the Maverick's temp gauge can be showing two or three bars (full operating temp is four bars or halfway on my truck) with the heater blowing HOT air and it will still be at 1400-1500RPM.

As for ambient temp, it can happen anywhere between -25 to 10 Celsuis... which is -13 to 50 Fahrenheit. I have paid very close attention to see if it's just happening at very cold temps, but it happens when it's above freezing as well.

Yes, it has a block heater, but I don't use it and it's not necessary - nor does it factor into this issue.
