Here is a video I watched today. Not that clay bar is expensive, but Plumber's Putty is dirt cheap. Have you tried it? Professional detailers, please let me know what you think?

Don’t cheap out on your paint. A good clay bar kit can be had for $20-$30 at Wally World or any auto part store. And that typically provides enough clay to do several vehicles. Why risk it for a couple bucks? Leave the plumbers putty to plumbing.

No way I am using plumber's putty. Every time I attempt any project with "plumbing" in the description, it turns into a fiasco. :)
