For those that have asked about carrying a kayak. I took mine out yesterday. The kayak is a little over 12 feet long. I used the harbor freight hitch extender. On the lowest height it matches up with the tailgate pretty good. Overall it fit nicely. I could still fit some heat back there, but would have to load differently if I brought two large kayaks.

Thanks for sharing - like the commenter above me, I have a single kayak and a SUP both about 10' and waiting to see if it can be strapped to the lifted tailgate position without the extender...

I ordered the extender for that reason…approximately 10’ SUP, kayak and 9’ surfboard. I don’t have the truck yet to see how it will work.

We have 4 kayaks (all over 13ft) so I'm going with either ladder racks or a canopy with roof racks.

10'? Must be from a big box store, or a kids Kayak. 12-13 foot is a good single person starter Kayak, and typically tracks a lot better than the short ones, not to mention less cramped.

Here is my 15’6” sea touring boat. It travels fine on my setup.

Completed my DIY temporary kayak rack until I get the Yakima roof rack. Used 2x2's and harbor freight hitch extender vertical.

Hey! Is it safe? I think that the roof rack posted below is more suitable for big boys' kayaks. Got 14' baby(here are specs). Still can imagine how to transport it...
Thx for sharing, anyway

Here is my 16 foot boat on my overkill racks. All you really need is the bed rack in the rear. It's a steel rack I bought off of ebay for $100. I cut down the height to match the Yakima load bars on the cab to serve as a lumber rack.

Yaks work best with only 2 cross bars. They all have some kind of camber to their hull.

The secret is to having one of the load bars all the way in the back and low enough you can set the bow on it and then slide the boat forward. Full size trucks are just too high and with cars you can't mount a cross bar far enough back.
