Green oil

Hey all need education here possibly? I'm seeing a lot of posts about people changing their break in oil when their truck is bought new .saying the oil is " green" inferring it's " bad". Isn't the oil supposed to look like that and isn't it supposed to stay in the engine for 5000 miles? Some are draining that oil at less than 1000 miles,might be harming the engine?

its normal for some oil to have green hue. I didn't notice it on my first oil change though.. I changed the oil and filter at 1000 miles in my ecoboost. I don't think there is any harm in doing this. This is known as a "break in" oil change. But I also don't think it's entirely necessary to change the oil this early. Here's a good video about it below. I would definitely consider doing a fluid change on your Transmission and Differential EARLY.

Thx. Is changing the diff and transmission oil early just a ford thing? I have two 15 year old dodges and have never changed these fluids. I haven't owned a new Ford since my 85 mustang gt .

Considering I've seen your postings here many times, I know this post is 100% disingenuous.

Why are you trolling? You know the answers, you have been here long enough, what are you trying to achieve here? You know the information and you constantly post about how it's never been "needed" on any of your other vehicles. Why bother starting a new thread when you don't care what the answers are. Are you just looking to validate your opinion and argue with someone? Even the title is clickbait trying to get people to come in here that might not have seen your postsing previously. You know the green oil is not "bad" and why it's green. It's been explained to you many times. It's the lubrication used during assembly.

Fluid changes are preventative maintenance and you have chosen to ignore them, so keep doing that.

Go by the manual, or whatever number is being presented to you and keep living your best life.

Wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? I keep my vehicles a long time and am asking advice on how to do that. If you read my response I stated this is the first new Ford I've bought in almost 40 years so I'm not familiar with the maintenance schedule. Sheesh.

Yes you are familiar enough. You post in those threads all the time about how unnecessary early changes are and that all your vehicles have never been changed because they are "lifetime" fluids. So go back to those threads and read the advice that's been presented over and over and change the way you post about the issues instead of just interjecting the way you always have, and maybe people would take this cry for advice as an actual need for help and not the disingenuous rhetorical questioning you have chosen many times about the issue you are all the sudden concerned about.

No need to start a new thread for advice that's been given over and over and I know you've seen it. It's a forum, repeat posts happen often - no big deal - but this aint one of them for the reasons I'm specifying. If you want specifics on intervals and how to's, go to the maintenance forums and start searching. It's all there. You know because you've posted in them before.

I am ignorant about changing the break in oil .I keep seeing posts about it but never saw an answer about why it's recommended. And was concerned it was detrimental. I posted a question on here because that's what's it's for,but I guess I could break out my manual,that's less hostile

No matter what anyone says about early changing of engine oil. I‘M GONNA CHANGE IT. Everything is “breaking in” - knurl cylinder walls, rings, cam n lifters, bearings and seals. Yea, seals. Oil analysis reveals metals and compositions of seals . All this stuff slows down, minimized over time, mileage.

Thx,I have seen posts about changing the break in oil,but everyone is different and I want to do what is right for my maverick to last a long time. I generally go by the manufacturer recommendations.

I oil is green because the factory adds green die to help check for leaks before they ship them.

The color isn't a big deal. Many break-in oils have been green in the past. Royal Purple is purple, and it's a dye... And not even that great of an oil. At least, not as good as their commercials used to be.

What I can say via oil sampling is that the factory fill is not the same as what you buy off the shelf with Motorcraft. This is understandable as they know new engines will need a little more 'protection'. The value differences are high enough that I can't say I'd believe it's from assembly lubes. I've built enough motors to know you really don't use a ton of assembly lube.

Yes, Ford and GM both use a green dye in the factory oil. The dye responds to UV light, so that they can check for leaks with a black (UV) light on the first oil change. Much easier to spot if it glows when you shine the light on it.
