No. I have disabled vet plates that save me the annual fee (still owe ad valorem taxes). So, I have no issue with displaying that.

The main point of the license plate is to identify your vehicle. (The other being to collect revenue for the privilege of driving, those lousy bast . . . I digress). Seems to me if one cannot see the plate clearly, the main point is then mute.

Hahaha. I did leave that out, didn't I? However, that 'cool' factor sorta melts if you get a citation setting you back a couple hundred. Also, why give law enforcement a reason to pull you over? Ya, I consider myself 'law-abiding', but who needs "Sir, I pulled you over due to an illegal license plate, but I also noticed a human leg protruding from your truck bed." "Mind opening that up?". LOL

Here's the kicker....

Plates may be of any color and can be made by any source (including the owner) so long as numerals and background are of highly contrasting colors.

Plate ID may be "painted on" for example, it need not be a physical, removable, metal plate. Also, electric, digital plates are now accepted.

Believe it or not, I have seen entire plates that are stickers so they will bend around gentle contours of a vehicle. 100% legal as long as they are just as legible as a state issued one.
