Tighter turns usually makes for safer driving not having to back up into a street or when off-roading. I just saw a Youtube about the Maverick turning radius on this video
Strange that his 4x4 Grand Cherokee made the turn but not the Mav. Does anyone know how the Maverick compares to other similar sized vehicles?

May be large, but I have managed quite well.

It's a truck, not a sports car. And it's actually not that bad. It's 20 feet. To put that in perspective, the Mustang has a turning radius of around 18.5 feet.

For a small truck, it seems like it should have been able to make that same turn the big jeep could without having to back up.

Fords tend to have take more space turning than other brands, or at least their fwd setups do. My GMC Envoy & current Outback put a former Escort to shame in that department, even both beingsubstantially larger. The Windstar's turning radius was positively huge.

Whoa! A shorter truck with a smaller wheelbase has a smaller turning circle than a Maverick? That's amazing!

The guy says his Grand Cherokee gets 15mpg. Good thing it's maneuverable when he's looking for an available pump at the gas station.

The turning radius is one of the reasons I like a smaller truck like the old Ranger. Consumer Reports says the '22 Ranger has a turning circle of 43 feet and the Maverick's is 41 feet.

I would have thought the turning circle would be more than 2 feet better given the Maverick is 11 inches shorter than the Ranger and has a wheelbase that's 6 inches shorter.

I guess the wheelbase & length don't matter as much if you only let the front wheel turn to a certain degree. For example if you only let the front tire turn 1 degree, your turning circle will be 500 feet (or something ridiculous like that), but if you let it turn 90 degrees you'll get a turning circle of about 30 feet.

Maybe Ford only lets the Maverick turn at the same degree (maybe 30 or 45) it does the Ranger & F-150. That would keep the turning circles similar.

I definitely noticed the difference from my previous vehicle ('19 Hyundai Veloster), but I expected it going from a small car to a larger vehicle. To find a desperate silver lining to it, let's just say I no longer attempt the kind of risky U-turns I used to make in the Hyundai.

To me, it’s pretty good at least in the AWD configuration I have. Sure a small car is going to be better but the Maverick is actually fairly long, even my 3 row 4WD 4Runner is technically smaller in length on paper but side by side in the garage, the difference is negligible

The Maverick can do u-turns actually pretty well, you just have to be a bit more ballsy with the initial steering input. I had no problems whipping it around tight parking lots, tight one lane roads and more with a bit more initial aggressive steering input while keeping up with cars and CUV’s too. Go slow on the initial input and you’re signing up for a 3 point turn potentially from my experience. People that have grown up driving in a major city like Philadelphia will probably understand what I’m talking about here as making u-turns is a way of life lol. This is typically a “no-no” on SUVs, like my 4Runner for obvious reasons but once you get used to the truck, you’ll find it’s more responsive steering wise than you think so I wouldn’t hold your hat on this random YouTube comparison as what to expect if you don’t own a Maverick yet.

I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado Z71 crew cab when I get my Maverick I will be so happy with that turning radius. I live on the Kentucky Tennessee border and when I have to turn around I have to go into the next state to make my turn.😉

I find it reasonable to handle in the city. My f150 crew cab for work is not. Our company has Nissan Frontier's. They are natoriously hard to turn around. Big tires can also restrict turning radius.

Here are some numbers from Google
Mav 20
Colorado 20-22
F150 crew 26
Tundra 24
Lightning 24
Frontier 22-24
Forester 18
4Runner 18.7
Tacoma 20-22
Jeep 19
Gladiator 22

You sure its 40ft.. That seems embarrassing. There are other reports that says 20ft, has anyone actually measured it?.
My excursion has a 25ft radius and you have to plan for u-turns; hug the right side of lane, travel extra into intersection and make sure you have two lanes, pray you don't hit curb. 40ft I would be over curb, opposite side of street lamp, and back over curb to get back on road.
