Just ran across this today while at work as I was searching for a Ford F-600 chassis & front bumper.

This is a legitimate Ford manufacturer's website that provides hundreds of CAD models for the purpose of upfitting designs onto their various models.

You may notice that the Maverick is one of the available pull-down options:

Yep! Both Ford and GM release CAD to legitimate aftermarket accessory and upfitting businesses --
not for personal use.

It's a great resource to develop aftermarket support, which then increases demand for their vehicles.

But seriously, guys, don't submit frivolous CAD requests through here.

Agreed on no frivolous CAD requests, but it's a public domain site, so they probably expect a little bit of that. Difficult to know what's frivolous and what's genuine.

I was all excited, I thought this was a model of the truck that could be converted to an STL file for printing. The hunt continues.

I was able to download a number of F-600 STEP files for various subassemblies to run in Inventor Professional at work.

These models are highly faceted, so you will need a competent computer & CAD software package.

I was able to build a partial truck front end, but even my high-end computer at work struggled with the build.

I didn't see a full STEP model of an entire truck, which would be a very difficult model to work with, even as a simplified conversion.

I requested them for the CAD class that I teach at a middle school. It was approved. However, they never provided the password.

The issue is that they truncate the email name format for a username. They then send the password to that address. The problem being, there is no email address by that name.

My user name is in the form of [first].[last]@[district name.net
So, a username for John Smith would look like john.smith@school_district.net

Ford truncates that to [first2].[last]@[district name.net
So, a username for John Smith would look like jo.smith@school_district.net

Because that account does not exist, the password is never given.

Well - you hope that kind of lazy incompetent program/designer didn't have anything to do with the CAD files!

I am going to call this "an idea that didn't work."

The person who authorizes the file requests said to call tech support. The person on that end was nearly unintelligible. I think he was repeating "What is your supplier CDSID ." That said, I was unable to clearly understand him. This is not intended to insult people from India (and that is just a guess based on what sounded like a very thick accent), but the combination of his accent and the very poor quality phone connection made the tech support unusable.

As someone else pointed out, Ford makes it clear that personal Gmail accounts, and the like, are not acceptable. In all, I think it would have been a fun project for my more advanced students, but it isn't going to happen.

I want to make it clear that I am not "upset." Some ideas don't work, that's all.
