I actually saw one one the road next to me the other day and thought, "Oh you poor bastard." This coming from a guy driving a 2007 Corolla with no paint on the roof and, at that point, two broken interior door handles.

Speaking of manual transmissions, anyone have one of the old Ford Escort Wagons (w/manual transmission)? I had one - super cheap (I think I paid $10,600 for one new in 1996) and it got close to 40 MPG and was great in the snow (especially with snow tires).
I had three escorts new. Each had over two hundred and 40 thousand miles on all of them. Just regular maintenance. One clutch went out.
I got 42 miles per gallon from the first fill up to the last time I filled it up.
All three never broke down on the road. The focus never got more then 35 miles.
