Ford's most-affordable SUV is exiting the US and Canada soon, leaving the forthcoming Maverick pickup to take up the slack.

CNET article

The EcoSport's exit from US and Canada leaves the Escape compact as Ford's most affordable SUV -- the Blue Oval will go without a true entry-level SUV.

However, Ford may have an unexpected trump card: the 2022 Ford Maverick, a small pickup truck that wears a similarly friendly price.

I thought that vehicle was a confusing part of the lineup as soon as i saw it.

It's basically a cheap AF lease pig (despite depreciating off a cliff) for people who can't afford an Escape but need that command seating of a crossover. Same as the Trax/Encore.

Me too. They call it “Eco,” but the mpg for its size is horrendous. And it really looks like 💩. Sorry EcoSport owners/lovers.

… but good riddance, EcoSport.

Yup, Ecosport wins top honors as the worst rating C&D has ever awarded anything in the Ford lineup with a 3.5 out of 10 score: https://www.caranddriver.com/ford

As far as I know, the only time they've given a vehicle a lower score was way back in 2009 with the cheap knockoff Mercedes Kia Amanti: https://www.caranddriver.com/kia/amanti

I looked at the price of those things a decently equipped XL Maverick is about the same price. Goodbye overpriced roller skate.

There's a dealer nearby with 7 white ones (one SES, one Titanium and five S). Granted they are a top fleet sales location so I can see the fleet manager off loading them on a municipality in a package deal. With an S at 21,400 (MSRP, destination fee) I sell them as a group of five for 100k and make room for more Mavericks.

I absolutely love the Ecosport, but said no when I found out no manual transmission. If it had been an option like overseas, I would have bought one.

Speaking of manual transmissions, anyone have one of the old Ford Escort Wagons (w/manual transmission)? I had one - super cheap (I think I paid $10,600 for one new in 1996) and it got close to 40 MPG and was great in the snow (especially with snow tires).

Shocker. Underpowered, weird looking, crappy MPG and basic. Only reason they sold a few of them is because of discontinuing sedans.
