I have a 2007 sport trac that my son is driving and ordered a maverick as I liked the platform. However, was told that I can not get a turn signal switch as Ford cancelled that part. Whaaaat?!? I have owned a lot of older vehicles and have never run into this. Just chatted with Ford Parts help was told the part was obsoleted. Was told that will make parts for 10 years, and maybe after that if demand for the part. If you plan on owning longer than 10 years, may be an issue for you. Thought you should have all the facts as well.

UPdate - pays to vent I guess! a member found the part at rock auto so that works! Not sure why rock auto didnt come up on any search for part number or part description, but book marked for future use.

Just playing devil's advocate. How long do you feel they should make parts? Should you be able to call them for parts for a 88 f150?

Not being able to get a part from Ford for a 14 year old vehicle doesn't seem weird to me. When I need something for my 2008 Prius I look at Amazon, junkyards, and eBay. Typically Toyota doesn't cross my mind to call.

I appreciate that this is a potential deal breakers for you, and everyone is entitled to make their own purchase decisions, but this doesn't change my mind on my purchase.

Thanks for the information though!

thats the issue, no parts in the aftermarket as well. I guess I had too high expectations as I have always owned old cars my whole life. all I could afford. I have not run into a part I cant get for my 1997 chevy truck yet. and was buying parts from VW for a 20 year old jetta. I guess I was spoiled is all. Just a data point and if you are like me and own cars much longer than 10 years, this may be an issue for you like it is for me.

I own my cars for as long as I can. I just sincerely never think to check with the manufacturing.

Maybe the second gen Prius has a larger aftermarket parts market. I've almost always found what I need on Amazon.

If I can still have this Maverick in 14 years and part scarcity is one of hopefully only a few problems I'm dealing with, I'll consider myself lucky. Heck if it lasts 10 years I'm going to be ecstatic.

It should be the same part in the Explorer from the same era. Junk yards have a Hollanders Manual that cross references parts, they could help you find a good used unit. Ford isn’t the only one, all manufacturers discontinue older parts.

I just googled 2007 Sport Trac Turn Signal stalk and found a bunch online. Heck, you can even order O.E.M units from Advance and Autozone. And, as mentioned, just look for an 07 Explorer turn signal stalk, same thing. Not sure what the issue is here...

I can't even begin to guess how much warehouse space would be needed to stock every part for EVERY car 10 to 20, 30, 40 + years old.

Wait... i just had a brain fart.
We DO HAVE acres and acres of warehouses full of parts + I really do enjoy digging around in them.o_O

I can't really get OE parts for my 27 year old Civic that I had from the dealer either. Most everything was aftermarket at that point. You could find new old stock on ebay sometimes. But OE parts will dry up after a certain amount of years. It's normal.

yep, found all those too. Every one. looks good until you hit buy, then you get a 'ship when available' or 'no longer available'. and for some reason different part from the explorer. searches for the OEM part number is a dead end as well. I get it, OEMs cant have parts available forever, but with cars 200K miles is pretty normal and that is way past 10 years. Just surprised me to hear 'tough luck' from the OEM as their solution.

I was going to say Rock Auto (looks like you found that out), heck they have parts for 80's Escorts, when is the last time you saw one of those on the road?
