If Ford says it is a direct replacement for the FL-910S, then I'd say roll with it.

It looks like the filter is Ford approved and can be used. Thanks everyone for the input. Mike

The Ford part number for FL910S is BE8Z-6731-AC. The Ford part number for FL2123 is NU2Z-6731-EA.
Question on part numbering since I worked in a Ford Parts Dept. from shortly after high school in late 1967 to the late 1970's when I headed to the Seminary, with a stint in the Army from Mid 1968 to late 1970. At that time the first 2 letters indicated the decade/year it was first in production. C8 was 1968, and D2 was 1972 and the letter after this indicated model of car, like a C8TZ meant it was original to a 1968 pickup/truck. But now with "BE8" or "NU2" it seems as though this is not the way numbering happens any more. As a curious ex-parts guy, can you enlighten me on how it is now done?? Thanks in advance!!!

I don't work in parts myself....so I don't know the details. The prefix does indicate the year and model of the vehicle the product was first used for.

I did some digging online. Prior to 1999, the 1st digit was the decade and the 2nd the year, like you said. The 3rd indicated the product line and the 4th the "design responsibility".

After 1999, the 1st code is still the year (B is for 2011, N is for 2022). The 2nd and 3rd digits indicate the product line code. And the 4th is still the "design responsibility" code. U2 indicates Motorcraft. Not sure about E8 though!
All of the oil filters have Z as the 4th digit, which indicates a service part.
