So I worked at Ford for long time and GM before that. Owned numerous vehicles while an employee of both companies.

I have never purchased a first year model of anything. Kinda interesting reading all the excitement.

How many others are making the Maverick their first model year purchase?

How many others are making the Maverick their first model year purchase?
Had a 1997 Escort and a 2007 Focus, both were the "first year" after a remodel/restyle. Never had an issue with either. Hoping I have the same experience with my Maverick.

I know someone who worked at GM and tesla and he said first year model's are the one you buy because it's over engineered. The ensuing models they start to figure out how cheap they can actually make it to increase profit margins
Actually I think I've seen that.

This is the second "first model year purchase" for me.

My 2015 Honda Fit Ex was the first. The 2015 Honda Fit was the first year of the Third Generation and had lots of changes/upgrades from Gen2. Had no issues whatsoever over the seven years I owned the Fit.

I bought the first year model of the Ford Mustang redesign in 2005. That’s the closest I’ve gotten to buying a first year model of anything. Normally, I wait for the second or third year, so all the kinks can get worked out. Since this hybrid platform is the same as the Escape, I felt good about going with it.

2004 F150 with the first three valve 5.4, that worked out well. My son totaled it before the 5.4 blocked oil passage problem popped up.

This would be my first time buying the first MY, not that I'm worried about it. I will break down my logic and see if anyone else can refute it.

1. The body is the same core as the Escape and Bronco Sport with over 19 million test miles.
2. The Maverick, in large, is a parts bin truck which have been tested and validated for years/decades. You can buy many of the components, and various 3rd party alternatives, commercial of the shelf (COTS) that plug/bolt right up.
3. Consumer reports shows a history of first model year vehicles being just as reliable as the following years. Small annoyances with pieces/functions or missing features are what ruffle peoples feathers.
3b. Even though there may be MAJOR engine/transmission issues in the first year they likely won't be found before year two/three. Look at the CMAX CVT issue that lasted for 3 years before they found the bearing was bad.
3c. Each subsequent year could have new parts, suppliers, workers, robots, you name it and could have any number of new issues introduced.
4. The warranty typically solves most issues and a heavily recalled vehicle just means, to me, that they are at least stepping up and getting the issues fixed. I had to wait for 5 years and 12 broken burnt our headlights on my Prius for them to finally do a safety recall. Found out they would have refunded my headlights too but I didn't save the receipts (learn from my mistake).
5. We are all on a chat forum that will complain about EVERYTHING, so any possible issue will quickly have a solution.
6. Don't set you expectations to zero defects in the first year and be open to a few hours at the dealer. Be nice to them and they should take care of you.

Actually I think I've seen that.
Yes having said that this is the first year model i've bought and i am a bit nervous, i've accepted it won't be perfect and there will be some recalls here and there but if it lasts me 8-10 years i will be perfectly happy
