I’ve been mostly lurking here, but finally received my Cactus Gray XLT (lux, 4k, fx4) a bit over two weeks ago and had to share my experience.
Had a ridgeline that I quite enjoyed for years, but the frame failed inspection August 2022 and left me scrambling as that was an awful time to buy a new vehicle. Was able to buy a pristine 98 Tacoma off of a friend’s family member to cover me for the time being and decided to pull the trigger on ordering a Maverick having never even sat in one.
Ordered at 7pm on the last day banks were open at Shults Ford Harmar (Pittsburgh) with Ray Hartman. Got email confirmation quickly, and over the next 11 months had prompt answers to questions without any excess communication (newsletters, etc).
Fast forward to August and my Mav is built and awaiting shipment. I reach out to Ray for the first time in months, get some prompt information about shipping and anticipated arrival date. I have travel scheduled for almost all of August and half of September, and was worried about it arriving while I’m out of town.
It shows up a day after I leave for a 10 day trip. Horror stories of dealers selling orders out from under folks come to mind.
Nope. I get back from the trip and arrange to go in the next day to pick it up. Ray comes in on his day off at time of my choosing to get everything squared away. Process with smooth as could be other than some forceful attempts at upselling warranties by the finance guy. Paid MSRP and not a cent more.
Only got to drive it once before going on a 2 week trip to the Middle East (side note: SO many “appropriately” sized vehicles on that trip; the less aggressively styled hilux, L200s, rangers, etc). Finally back from that and have a long list of modifications to make. I’m a carpenter and this will be my work vehicle, so seat covers, tonneau and lumber rack are all musts. Planning on doing some modifications to the Thule TracRac to make it work on the Maverick, will post about that when I get to it.
Love the truck so far in my 3rd day of driving it, and looking forward to getting it broken in and customized to my needs. Have ready plenty of other folks contributions and figured it was time to share some of my own! Anyone in SWPA, Shults Ford was great to work with, Ray doubly so.
