Hello,
My '22 Maverick is approaching the end of its factory warranty, and I'm curious about people's opinions on extended warranties. It would cost me $2,100 CAD for an additional 3 years and 50,000 km. The truck has had quite a few issues, so while I usually wouldn't consider an extended warranty, I'm seriously thinking about it for this vehicle.

I paid $2,000 for premium care coverage out to 100,000 miles for five years.
At my ford dealer, for the full warranty.
I will trade it just before 100,000 and get back under another 100,000 miles warranty.
Thats $33 a month, cheap insurance.

If you do decide to purchase extended warranty, check out the rates at Granger. They often have the lowest rates.

Extended warranties are not equal.

Because my hybrid componentry is covered by 8 yr/100k warranty and based on the miles I drive annually - I would need an 8 yr/125k warranty.

Getting anything less than PremiumCare is a waste of money.

Adding first day and extended rental plus lighting - takes the 8 yr / 125k Premiumcare warranty price tag up to a whopping $3,835.00!!

Doesn't seem worth it to me.

I did the math for us people south of the border. He is paying roughly $1,500 for a 31,000 mile 3 year extended warranty. I would keep the $1500 since I have personally never had a major problem on a car under 75,000 miles. That’s an expensive insurance policy but if it puts you at ease, and you can afford it, go for it. Your powertrain already is extended that far.

If it isn't Premiumcare then it is a waste for sure.

I would see how much a 10 year warranty would cost. That would give you 7 more years coverage, not 3. Make sure it's a Ford warranty, not a 3rd party one. Also it's transferable, that will get you a higher price when you sell it, or if you trade it in, you will get a refund for the unused portion when you cancel it.

I bought my Premium Care extended warranty from Granger Ford and saved a lot of money over what my local dealer wanted to charge me. I consider it inexpensive peace of mind.
8 yr / 100,000mi = $1,610. (18mo interest free financing offered when I bought mine)

Whatever you decide, do NOT buy anything other than a genuine Ford warranty.
Be careful. Some dealerships sell 3rd party warranties because they can be less expensive. If you check around, you will hear horror stories about aftermarket warranties not paying off and the customer is stuck with the repair bill.
Factory warranty=good. Aftermarket warranty=a roll of the dice.

Realistically, extended warranties are breakdown insurance.
How do you feel about driving around with only liability coverage on your vehicle?
What is your confidence level in all of the electronics in your vehicle. (expensive parts)

It’s always a personal decision with no right or wrong answer. I’m just sharing my perspective with you.

I agree 100% with you. I also suggested only get a Ford warranty, I don't know if Granger sells Ford warrantys in Canada.

When I bought my 2022 Ecoboost XLT AWD with towing package, I planned on keeping it a long time. I purchased a 6 year bumper to bumper from dealer for $1,700.00. They at first wanted more.

I have been on the fence buying the ESP warranty as well, the 10 year / 100K one with headlight coverage that most people go for from Granger or the other dealer that sells them at cost basically.

On one hand, it does seem like cheap insurance for some potentially very expensive repairs (e.g. a heater core, dash out).

On the other hand, I feel like the 100K plan is pretty strategically priced because they know that's the tipping point where a lot of things start to wear out, or already are worn out but you just never noticed. Struts, shocks, sway bar links for sure, ball joints, tie rod ends, various low grade plastic that touches coolant, etc. Ford isn't just going to cover that stuff under warranty if it's worn out but not failed. Even if you did for instance have a strut leaking (already totally toast at that point), they are just going to replace one strut.

where you get this quote if you don't mind me asking? I'm debating to buy Ford ESP PremiumCare for 10yrs/100k. Not sure if it is worth it, but modern cars nowadays have so much electronics stuff inside that easy to fail.

That is the Granger Ford Extended Warranty site and it is the absolute cheapest place you can purchase a Ford ESP warranty.
