The one thing you on count on is Honda's engine expertise. Or so it would seem.

Honda says in documents posted Friday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that connecting rod bearings in the engine can wear and seize due to a manufacturing error, damaging the engines. The engines could run improperly or stall while being driven, increasing the risk of a fire, crash or injury.
1,450 warranty claims to-date.
The recall covers certain 2018 and 2019 Honda Pilot SUVs and Odyssey minivans and some 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline pickup trucks. Also affected are certain 2015 to 2020 Acura TLX cars and some 2016 to 2020 Acura MDX SUVs.

It always amazes me how after 100 years of powerplant design and production, things like this still happen. Same goes for transmissions.

Bad news for Honda owners for sure. Kinda like the Kia/Hyundai fiasco.

But how does that apply to the Maverick?

A shame. But it happens. Similar to the ICE fires in the Maverick Hybrid.
I'm guessing, but OP's point may be that this type of thing can happen to other vehicles besides the Ford Maverick Hybrid.

Honda has had a growing number of engine related issues in the last 5-8 years, so to be honest this isn't that unexpected. I expect Toyota to start having the same issues now that they have started to make some very modern high tech engines as well. Gone are the days of simple engines, with few problems.

Guessing they are posting it because some people on this forum decry how bad Ford is because of a few engine failures and that they are going back to totally reliable Hondas and Toyotas.

I think most of the outcry has been over how many recalls there are, not just the engine stuff. It's a known fact that Ford has had the most recalls on it's lineup of vehicles than any other brand for the last 2-3 years running.
