So, could we also say "A Hybrid is a gas-powered vehicle. PERIOD."?

It seems like that would be confusing...
My Hybrid Maverick VIN Decoded shows:

Engine Model: Hybrid
Electrification Level: HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle)

Primary Fuel Type: Gasoline
Secondary Fuel Type: Electric

Gas + Electric = Hybrid
Really? Wow! Who knew?

Seriously... I'm guessing you didn't read the post I was responding to.
The one that said, "A Hybrid is an electric vehicle. PERIOD."

That's ok, you're not the only one.
@huunvubu posted a VIN decode and a diagram to say the same incredibly obvious thing.

[EDIT] Now that I think about it, @Criss944 probably did get what I was saying and was just agreeing that we need to call it both -- a hybrid. I took it as him trying to educate me on what a hybrid is. I apologize for misunderstanding.

A mule paired with a horse to pull a cart is also a hybrid.

Actually, a mule is a hybrid all by itself.

It boggles the mind...

A hybrid is a gas vehicle with an electric assist. That is the most accurate statement.

Well, with the 1495 delivery fee, nobody was ever getting one in the first place.

It'll happen when it happens. Ain't no use getting bothered over it because there's not a damn thing I can do about it. I've got enough things to deal with that I can control. This isn't one of them.
I am because of Ed from Chapman

Why are you dragging this whole thread down with asinine comments about a Donkey being a Hybrid.

I don't know why you seem to be confused by what a Hybrid Vehicle is.

The online VIN decoder shows the straight answer:

Engine Model: Hybrid
Electrification Level: HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle)

Primary Fuel Type: Gasoline
Secondary Fuel Type: Electric

IMO, Ford wants the EPA to take their sweet time on the ratings, the hybrid standard was a total failure, they make more money on the ecoboost, the 20k price tag was to attract people then people would choose the Ecoboost ( pay more ) over the hybrid, that did not go as plan, so they want you to buy an ecoboost instead.
Entertaining how people like you just made things up these days. You are from MA read about CAFE standards. Selling hybrid helps Ford to offer more gas-thirsty\expensive vehicles.
With all due respect, I speculate that in days\weeks all these BS theories will go away.

With all this talk about what is a hybrid, I guess nobody knows why the EPA selected the Maverick to run it's own test.

How does the EPA select which vehicles it will test it's self? Is it random?
Since some hybrid buyers have vin# ford must think the EPA will finish their work soon.
They select 1 out of 6 vehicles for confirmatory testing. Supposedly 2/3 of those are randomly selected and 1/3 are chosen by staff for "other reasons" (which can basically be any reason).

Do they do this with every new model?

Sigh... I guess I'm going to have to put an emoji on even the most obvious stuff.

Let me spell it out in the hope that I won't get any more "Captain Obvious" replies.

@Fotomoto said "A Hybrid is an electric vehicle. PERIOD. " That's misleading, in my view.
So, following his same logic, I asked if we could also say "A Hybrid is a gas-powered vehicle. PERIOD."

The point was to show that either statement, by itself, was incomplete and misleading. I didn't think it would be that hard for people to grasp, but apparently it was for some. I'll have to work on my technique. And emojis.

Why are you dragging this whole thread down with asinine comments about a Donkey being a Hybrid.
@Criss944 make a joke about a mule and a horse pulling a cart being a hybrid. I responded to him by joking that a mule (not a donkey) was a hybrid all by itself. I hope that clears it up for you.

By the way, I do appreciate the semi-pun involving "asinine" and donkeys. Well done.

I thought ford was waiting for the OKTB for the hybrid from the EPA. Did the ECOBoost get the same treatment from the EPA. I understood ford ran the test and provided the data to the EPA and the EPA decided to run it's own test. The question is why the hybrid and not the ECOBoost?

I'm not sure what you are saying here.
-- Are you saying they changed the design of the eCVT in late July?
-- Or just that they retooled the assembly line in late July? (Or both?)

Maybe it would help if you posted links to the articles and forum posts you went back and found.
I already did post some of links to what I found. I'm not going to keep re-posting everytime someone does'nt want to believe what I posted or are to lazy to research it themselves. I for one am able to follow the articles and the other members posts about the eCVT changes to see the reason for the EPA testing.
