Could some of you guys furnish your dealer’s fixed “documentation fee”? These fixed fees seem to be going up with every car purchase I have made. They used to be around $399 - $499 in my area. My local Ford dealer is now at $799. What are you seeing at your local dealership?

$595 at my local dealer here in North Carolina. Pure profit for them. Plus we have to pay tax on the fee as well!

It seems to be a consistent $500 in my part of Maryland.

The dealer I'm working with in Phoenix charges $499 for the doc fee.

This is quite a wide range so far. I’m in a small market that doesn’t have multiple dealers to cross shop. It’s a a hour plus away from the large metro dealerships and I think my local dealer can get away with charging more because most people don’t want the hassle of shopping out of town to save an few hundred bucks. They really should call this fee “dealership overhead” instead.

Doc fee is literally bullshit. They are charging you to file the paperwork for your purchase. I get that dealerships are getting squeezed and need to find other ways to make a profit so I won’t begrudge them making something but anything over $100 for a doc fee and I would walk.

They were going to charge me 80 for docs and 800 for a processing fee. I got them to knock it back to 400 but i still feel dirty.

I’ve complained about the fee before and managed to get some extra off the selling price, but they will not change the documentation fee on the paperwork.
