I have seen that the Ford and after market hood bug deflectors are held on with adhesive tape. Ford adds $140 for the deflector, or about $100 for after market deflector. My observation is that the adhesive tape does not seal water, grime or salt from migrating under the deflector since there are breaks in the tape. Any opinions?

I have the flush deflector with the tape on my truck over 2 years now without and problems. I go to a car wash without worrying about it getting ripped off, or blown off at the end of the wash. Dirt doesn't get stuck, so I'm sure if I removed it, and cleaned the area where the tape was, it would look as good as the day I enstalled it.
