Do different metal wheels make a functional difference?

Assuming that you will not be raising or lowering your truck then do the different metal wheel options(not the rubber tires) make a functional difference or is it all just cosmetic?

For example with the XTL you get painted aluminum wheels. Other than looks compared to the steel wheels that comes with the XL does that noticeably impact the handling or gas mileage?

IIRC the weights between the stock wheels isn't that different. You need to get into aftermarket wheels to really cut a significant amount of weight.

Only functional difference one wheel will have from another (on a normal car used for normal car things) is weight.

But I wouldn't be spending $1,000 on a set of new wheels to save 5lbs per wheel and get .2mpg better. It would be a complete waste of money

Steel is heavier but repairable. Aluminum is light but can leak on the bead easier.

Not much difference really. Steel can rust over time, aluminum can corrode over time. Steel is cheaper to replace if damaged.
