brilliant! So tail gate comes from the factory with ridges similar to the surface of the bed. If you're trying to use the tailgate as a work surface or a cooking surface, it's annoying that it's not flat. This solves that problem

Gee! I would have gotten some 5/4 maple, carved a couple of "cheek pockets" with beer can dimples between them.![]()
DIY Tabletop Tailgate Panel is complete and I couldn't be happier with the end result. Mines also coated with the spray in bed liner material vs XTR's version that's powder coated.
Measurements are pictured below for anyone who wants to recreate it. I called a local aluminum boat manufacturer, shootout to Koffler Boats in Eugene OR, they have tons of scrap sheets and for $60 they cut to shape a piece of 1/8" aluminum. I drilled and beveled the mounting holes myself. Maybe $4 for the 8 countersink sheet metal screws. Finally I called around for quotes from all of the local spray in bed liner businesses and Arma Coatings also in Eugene sprayed it for $50. $114 said and done. It would have been easy to use a hole saw and epoxy in a cup holder like XTR does as an option, but I preferred an entirely flat surface.
