I've done it. I lost my second key. I think I accidentally threw it in the dumpster 😭 It's long gone.

I've searched here for the guides and requirements to program new keys. I found the manual procedure that anyone with two working keys can do to program an additional key - the ignition cycle method. I've also seen it mentioned that keys can be programmed with Forscan but have not found the instructions to do so.

I have a friend with an F-150 who was told he could only program an additional key (using either Forscan or the ignition cycle method) if he had two working keys. He only had one but was able to program a second with Forscan.

My question: is it possible to program an additional Maverick key using Forscan if one only has a single working key/fob? And, if so, what's the Maverick procedure?

I have one working key/fob and two spare, uncut and unprogrammed keys/fobs. I also have my key code.

I'd really rather not pay the ridiculous dealer price to program and cut the keys if I can just get them cut at a locksmith and do the programming myself with Forscan.

Serious replies appreciated. Humorous replies also appreciated ;)

The search (this thread) function tells me that none of the threads have the answer.

Yes, it is possible if you are willing to potentially "brick" your truck if the reprogramming process does not work. This is because you have to wipe out ALL the keys and start from scratch.

I think there's a reason they use a cabled connection.

I would not want to use my bluetooth OBD2, because when Key is Off, power is cut to it immediately (with current battery state anyway), BT can drop (never tested how fast I could be with key turn to keep it up, considering 10 sec is limit for whole process there), and then phone is searching and Forscan Lite at least errors with no adapter pretty quickly.

Can't help in your situation. But your situation is also why I made two backup keys early on (before original fobs ended up in the washer [& the dryer]).

Local mobile locksmith cut me two fob keys I purchased on fleaBay. She waited in the parking lot while I programmed the fobs, using the ignition key method for my XL. Easy peasy with both OG keys. 75 bucks to cut the two extra keys.
Before she took a chance to FUBAR the fob keys, she cut a metal test key, to make sure her machine could properly cut a key for this model FORD. When that proved successful, she cut the two fob keys and gave me the test key for a spare door key. I put the metal key in a Hide-a-Key box and stuck it on the truck, in case my truck decided to lock my fob key inside the truck whilst getting gas, etc. Seems to be a common real or imagined issue on MTC.
A low-tech "keyless keypad entry pad," without programming or wires, or batteries to suffer a premature death. ;)

Yeah. I really wish I had programmed the spare keys before losing it. That's what I get for procrastinating.

Nice to see a fellow NW Arkansan - with nearly the same truck, too!

This isn't an exact answer to your question, but I thought I'd throw this in here just for the info. I bought my Mav used and it only came w/ one key fob. I'm not sure if it's because i got it from a Chevy dealer, but they refused to get me another fob. Perhaps a Ford dealer might have? Anyway, I was shocked to find out that the charge for a new fob and programming (not key cut!) was $800! They did tell me they'd do a fob I brought in for $175 but that has to be paid even if they can't get that fob to program. Gulp! I did lots of research and finally found a pretty fair price for an OEM fob and key and the seller was fantastic! (PM me if you would like his contact info.) Haven't found a local FORScan practitioner yet and I didn't feel comfortable w/ having only one working fob so that's the route I went.

A locksmith should be able to program a key a lot cheaper than a dealer

Many dealers use the local locksmith too, because they already have that relationship established thru their used car business. I assume Ford does make them at least initially procure the needed equipment, however.
