Yeah, happened to me. My Maverick made it to the storage lot from the train and sat there with a gas tank recall (possible pinch weld failure) for 10 months. Dealer wouldn't (couldn't? ) deal.
Ford's system won't even allow them to be reported sold....

Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $27,168 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery.

Well apparently they really aren't if they sold one to him or let him test drive.

I went to the my dealership in early Nov and test drove and put a deposit on one they had ordered. 2 weeks later, the day that I was going to go do the paperwork and pick up, the salesman call and said they could release because of the back up camera issue. He made it sound like they didn't know anything about it. That was on Nov 22nd.

I've seen posts here and on facebook groups where people picked up new one in November, so maybe dealership were not following Ford's recommendations.

But now they apparently are now.
I bought my XLT FX4 & took it home 11/9/24. It is now a part of the latest recall.

Does this include Sync 3 trucks? Not sure what Connected Touch Radios are.
I didn't see that anyone has answered this question yet.

'Connected Touch Radio' refers to the 'Ford Connected Audio' infotainment that any non-B&O 22-24 Maverick has.

B&O equipped trucks with Sync3 are not affected. everything else potentially is.

I owned an Explorer for six months before I was allowed to take it home for a camera recall. Fortunately, my dealer just kept giving me loaners.

I will say, it sounds like Ford might need to clamp down on a supplier as the problem with the Explorer camera was the fact they used tin instead of gold on an external electronic device. Over time, the tin corroded, which is why you use gold.

Thanks! Another reason I am glad I got the Lariat.

I think the Nov. 22nd date must have been the stop releasing date as what I'm seeing now.

yup recall was extended to all 24's (previous notice was only up to I think November builds of 2023).

My guess is that Ford has a big problem on their hands and I don't think the fix will be all software. The hardware isn't adequate enough to handle a video stream.

I was actually thinking about your situation when I saw this thread mentioned!!

For the Maverick, I suspect it has to do with the "slow" non-sync 3 software in the APIM. I think that there will most likely just be a software update fix. But we'll see, maybe some parts will be replaced too!

What's interesting is the Explorer's camera has started to the delay thing. I never saw it in the Maverick (I have a Lariat) but they still manually updated the software. The dealership said they were surprised Ford hadn't issued a similar recall for the Explorer yet given the software and hardware are pretty much the same.

"Ford Connected Audio" sucks.👎
Wouldn't it be a surprised if Ford had to upgrade everyone to Sync3

They will try everything possible to fix w/ software and avoid part replacement!

It was reported to be a memory leak. This should be able to be handled by software updates.

So, and I'm assuming the root cause, part of the issue for Ford is how the error manifested itself. Given the issue likely has a root that is similar to the Explorer's camera recall that did require a new camera, the problem won't appear immediately. Ford's efforts to replicate the issue requires also replicating the weather conditions and time. Someone in Florida is likely to have humidity-based corrosion issues long before someone is Southern California.

Again, I am not sure the root cause, but I am almost willing to place money on the fact the camera module uses tin and not gold. Gold doesn't corrode, which is why it is used on airbags. Ford is likely going to just have to force the issue with their parts supplier or find a new one.
