regardless. I purchased a wireless CarPlay adapter dongle. The dongle actually runs android so I can do a bunch of other cool stuff with it. Then I designed and 3D printed an insert that goes into the awkward little cubby next to the infotainment screen which houses some additional usb ports I added, and my MagSafe car charger. I can just slap my phone up on the MagSafe puck and my phone connects to CarPlay totally wirelessly.
This is a bit more than most people will probably want to do since you have to do some tearing down of the dash to get 12v ran up to the cubby, and 3D printing isn’t available to everyone, but it works a treat for me.

I was planning to do just this, can you share your STL file?I 3d printed a tiny little holder for a right angle usb c cable and it has been working amazing (ignore the fact that i canceled the print mid way through)
Sure thing! It probably could be better but it was designed to be used with a random mrglas cable we had laying around (apologies I have to use dropbox since im not allowed to upload stl files here)

edit: added images of the final result. I added some foam on top of it and I think it came out looking pretty nice
I really don’t think I have the bandwidth right now to set up anything to sell the cubby insert, but I can post the 3D printable STL file online if that’s something that people may be interested in. I also have the “blank” model of the cubby that I made in Fusion360 that could be easily edited and probably more useful to people if there is a demand or want for it. I would do a guide, but honestly this one was kinda hobbed together with the magsafe charger in my photos that was already broken. It used to be a vent clip mount, but the vent clamp part just kept getting loose, and I had to tighten it up tighter and tigheter until it broke. It luckily had a brass insert on the part that broke that I was able to remove and just press into my 3d print with a soldering iron. So it’s a bit of a one off, and not really a “Buy these parts and put it together like this” scenario.
