it may not have been wrecked. that stuff in the bed might be from rain after disassembly, but it also could have been water damaged from a hurricane, caught in high tide, or driven into a creek.

it is weird they disassembled it this far, though. I wondered if the rear frame rails were crushed, but I would expect the tailgate boxed interior to get damaged also, and it doesn't appear to be.

Yeah, all that sheet metal could use some undercoating.

Doesn't look like too much "Body Damage". More like "Flood Damage".

I had seen the "insides" before.. When the member.. "Redneck Garage"? Did some DIY repairs on his 2nd Maverick.
This does show how "Simple" these trucks are put (slapped :ROFLMAO:) together.. Which is a little sad for me.. :(.
Definitely different from the way, my old Rangers were put together...

It's interesting to compare these two pics and note the amount of debris buildup in the taillight pillar area of the driver's side vs. the relatively clean passenger side.

As a "Belt and suspenders" solution, yes.

The unpainted areas still have a protective electrocoating / "e-coat". These areas are pretty well shielded from surface damage (scratches, rock chips), so they shouldn't get significant rust for the lifetime of most vehicles.. in theory, anyway.

These pictures raise for me a question: I am expecting a brand new 2025 very shortly and I have been considering undercoating it but:

- the sheet metals on these pictures seems to reasonably well painted/ protected from rust.

- under coating is crazy expensive and good for only one or two years.

So, is undercoating really necessary and cost effective?

That's why I put the plate behind the driver's rear tire because got a face full of sand when I drilled for the receptacle on the bumper that plugs into the one in the bed.

My splash guards cover that area, and I have a floor cover plate for the void area behind it.

Rubberized or asphalt undercoating only protects until it gets hit by a sharp object and then becomes a spreader of rust as the abraded surface now has a wonderful trapping membrane to keep moisture against the paint.

If you use an oil based system which does have to be re-applied periodically, you will have a better chance of protecting the body. I rustproof with a system called Krown and my 2008 Ranger is still rust free despite salty winters. My Maverick was also protected.

Don't waste money with those idiotic rust modules dealers love to sell - they cannot possibly work unless all the many parts of your truck are connected directly to the unit. Some rust will happen - all you are trying to do is slow it down.
