I read somewhere that someone wanted a side by side comparison of an older Ranger to the Maverick. I just happened to pull in and park next to an older model Ranger so I snapped a pic comparing the sizes. My how times have changed!

That just proves how much bigger they started making the Rangers. I had a Ranger around 1988 and 1994 or so. They both were smaller than my Maverick by a long shot.

The reason I didn't buy a new Ranger is that they made them bigger again! So glad the Maverick came out! Dimensions are fairly close to my 2011 Ranger.

Just in simple terms. Size wise, how do they stack up, both interior and exterior. My wife had a 2010 Ranger, but I cannot remember what I had for lunch, much less its size LOL.

I had an old 97 Super Cab manual when I ordered my Mav in August of 2021. Used it as a weekend run around always wanting a pick up but not wanting a giant truck, the mileage, the cost or hassles. 265K on the dash and out the door less than $2K.

Seemed thinner, about as long..... that's where the comparison's end.

Vehicles designed in the early 90's are woefully inadequate compared to a Mav.

And then you park next to a modern F-150...

Is this at all helpful? The 2004 Mazda B2300 is nearly identical to the Ford Ranger of similar vintage.

They are both 2WD trucks.

I agree. I have a 2022 Ranger and it's the biggest I wanted to go on a truck. If you were to add 2 feet to the bed, it would literally be comparable in size to my old 2001.5 Cummins quad cab, long bed. I've been saying trucks have been getting too big for years... And too damn expensive!

It is a difficult comparison because the Maverick only comes in a 4 door crew cab, and my 2011 Ranger XLT was an extended cab 4x4. In one sense, there is more space inside the Mav cab, but in another sense I feel like I had more storage space in the Ranger cab since I could stack things behind the seat. I used to keep a tool box and emergency kit behind the driver seat and it fit perfectly, and I had the the space behind the passenger seat to throw whatever I needed back there. My toolbox won't fit in the under seat storage in the Mav, so unless I want to block the seat behind the driver by putting the toolbox there, I have to find another solution. This is not a complaint, just an observation. Obviously I can use the entire back seat to carry stuff when needed, so there is more space, it just "feels" different for lack of a better way to describe it.

On the plus side now the dog (80 lbs) has the entire back seat which gives him a lot more room than just sitting in the passenger seat of the Ranger, but I think he liked the Ranger better because he was in the front! :)

Overall exterior dimensions are pretty close. Ranger extended cab 4x4 has a wheelbase of 125.9 inches whereas the Mav is 121.1 inches. Ranger width 71.3 inches vs Mav 72.6 inches. Ranger length 203.6 inches vs Mav 199.7 inches.

So basically the Mav is slightly wider by 1.3 inches, and shorter by 3.9 inches.

Thanks a million. Now I need to talk to your dog. Obviously, he might be a bigger one, but my wife has a dog that has claimed the front passenger seat of her Maverick. If I go with them, she and Toby are "Driving Mr. Daisy". I am getting used to riding in the back seat of the Maverick LOL. To cap it all off, we have 4 total small dogs, so we have 4 dog beds in the back seat of my Maverick, so at least wife and I get to occupy front seats. I am amazed at how many people base their vehicles on their animals. I have a motor home and 2/3 of the travelers buy their rigs with their pets in mind. I would not have it any other way. Have a good one.

Probably would not surprise you that the first thing I bought for the Mav was the rear seat dog cover... :)

I still have my 97 S-10, previously had a 97 Nissan pickup - the Maverick is the right length and width, definitely more comfortable but bulkier is a lot of ways. I do think the visibility over the bed and the reach in height is just a bit high (guess im a little on the short side).
