I went to the ford dealership this afternoon. I saw a carbonized gray escape and F-250, and a cactus gray bronco sport and an area 51 bronco sport, and an ingot silver escape.

I like the carbonized gray. It probably sounds stupid but I was wondering how the black would contrast with the gray or if it would blend in. I thought it really looked good with the black trim.

Carbonized gray is a dark gray. I looked at the f-250 parked beside a black f-250 and the black one was about a shade darker, but carbonized gray is dark.

I thought the area 51 and cactus gray were "pretty" but were too light. To me. The area 51 had a little too much of a smurf blue hue and the cactus gray had a little too much don't-know-if-the-baby-will-be-a-boy-or-a-girl-but-it-will-need-some-pajamas pastel green. To me.

I said that the carbonized gray looked less juvenile and the salesman thought that was a good way to put it. What I meant was when you add the small size of the truck with the pastel colors it comes off as too young for someone my age.

I thought that the contrast of the black and gray on the escape was sharp and I'm excited for how the mav will look.
Some good analogies, especially about the Area 51 and Cactus Gray, I totally agree! I went for the CG for nearly the same reasons as you stated. The color seems more mature to me (I'm 58) and with LUX package wheels I think the Mav will look great! It's two bad you didn't snap of few photos of the various vehicles, especially the CG and Black F250s. It would have been nice to compare. When I visited my dealership they only had CG, Rapid Red, Blue Escapes(?) for comparison, I don't remember seeing a black one. I've seen the Orange and Cactus Grey around town so I knew they weren't for me and the Area 51 to me just didn't seem to know what shade of blue it wanted to be.

Carbonized Gray looks awesome on the Mav.

As I drive town around it seems every other truck is some form of gray !

I originally chose Oxford White as a place holder, but changed the next day to Carbonized Gray as I wanted a metallic color. Should look pretty classy.

This is Carbonized Gray on a Bronco, in sunlight.

In sunlight, would you say that is a light or dark gray ?

My current 2019 Tacoma is a very similar color (Cavalry Blue) to Ford’s Area 51. It behaves the same exact way going from shade to direct sunlight. It looks really good on the Tacoma (the only thing I like about it right now. Not a good experience, but that’s for a different discussion), reminded me of the colors from the old mid-late 80’s Toyota pick-ups of that era. Kind of like a “Carolina Blue”. I thought I would for sure choose it on the Maverick, but didn’t read as well for some reason.

I’d personally classify it as a dark silver or medium-light gray. I think it’s lighter than the Magnetic color Ford recently used on something like a 2019 Ranger and other products. Notably darker than the Iconic Silver though. More on the lighter side than the online build and price tool suggests in direct sunlight. You can see the molded fender flares of similar black color and texture of the Bronco and compare to the Maverick’s front and rear bumpers for comparison to black.

Great to finally see one in person! Would love to see some more pics. I agree that CGM is a lighter gray compared to most other charcoal gray vehicle colors, especially in direct sunlight. I can attest that it is slightly lighter than Ford Magnetic because my 21 Ranger is CGM with Magnetic bumpers.

I thought it was way darker than iconic silver or cactus gray and lighter than black. That bronco is how it looked on the escape to me. I like the way the black trim goes with the gray. It is going to look good on the mav imho.

Oh, also about the escape. Having the 8" screen on all mav trim levels really is a bonus. The escape had a little screen that was just for the back up camera, I swear it was 3 or 4" diagonal. Here is a link to the dealer's pictures of the carbonized gray escape-

I saw this up close at Marshal Mize and it is a nice color of grey with a metallic flake in it. It was between this color and Rapid Red for me. I chose RR because my wife liked it better!

I would have chosen Rapid Red for model year 2022 of it weren’t First Edition exclusive. I wanted a loaded Lariat 2.0T AWD, but couldn’t combine First Edition and FX4. I also wasn’t sold on the black colored roof and preferred the hard trifold tonneau cover over the soft folding.

Yes, we washed our gray hybrid Escape less than our other cars. It always looked clean. We ended up with black wheels, a black grill, and a bar on there, too. Looked really good. This is a pic of it when we first got it. It was a really nice gray with hints of blue.

Has anyone seen carbonized gray in the sunlight? I’ve looked online at pictures but I’m thinking they don’t really do it justice. I’ve probably seen it around on an F-150 or Bronco sport. Just wondering if it’s really metallic, or if it has any hints of other colors in there.
