Planning a trip with some friends to Cape Lookout, NC in the next few weeks. I saw online they recommend to use 4wd vehicles, and not AWD vehicles if possible. Has anyone brought their Maverick there yet? I haven't ever done sand driving -- in any vehicle yet. I know to pressure down to 10-20 PSI, and drive very carefully but I'm hoping to not waste the money on a ferry ride/tow if I get it stuck in the sand out there.

The sand on the beach itself probably want be a problem.getting to the beach is the problem.but there are people that will pull you out after you get stuck but it aint cheap.definitely have your cell phone!

Well, realized I should finally do a quick reply since it's been nearly a month since the trip now.

Once I got off the ferry, immediately aired down to 15 PSI on all tires. With that, I really had next to no-issues. 10/10 would go again. This was on a stock XL w/AWD.
