I am working with an MTC peer (@shazel) to perform SYNC 3 to SYNC 4 swaps in our 2022 Lariats. We are loosely following a guide prepared by @zackmd1 last year, though he seems to have gone inactive on this site since then.
Long story short, there are some hardware/firmware differences between the XL and Lariat. These differences ultimately come down to the SYNC 2.5 shipped with the XL vs the SYNC 3.4 shipped with the Lariat. The TCU in the XL uses the HS3CAN network to communicate, whereas it uses HS4CAN in the Lariat. When the SYNC4 APIM is installed, the truck is unable to communicate with the TCU due to faults in the HS4CAN network.
GWM programming with FORScan is not very well-known for any vehicle, but I am deep in the woods of debugging this communication error and am looking for any information I can get.
So, if there are any XL owners out there with FORScan who would be willing to share me a copy of your factory GWM AsBuilt file, it would be greatly appreciated. Please PM me the .abt file if so.
I am hoping to get this swap functional to write a detailed writeup here on MTC so other Lariat owners can make the same swap, but without all the debugging headache that we are going through.
P.S. If any XL owners read this and you have a copy of the service manual for the XL, it would also be a monumental help to have the module layout from the wiring diagram for the XL.
