For some non-strike talk....

Wife and I were driving to the local airbase to get groceries when I needed to get up to speed on the interstate. I decided to put it in sports mode before heading out and my wife was amazed how much acceleration the 2.0L with AWD has. Especially since we were getting up to interstate speeds going uphill. Add that to my experience over Labor Day weekend with towing a large trailer, I have been very pleased with the performance of the little EB motor in this thing.

Bob, if you think that EB is fast, you should try a 2.5 Hybrid!

You all know I am kidding :)

i realize you are joking as the EB exhibits pretty nice power.......but i thought the hybrid would be an actual dog to drive but i was surprised it's not too bad for a vehicle under 200 horsepower....

Having owned a Cmax hybrid, I knew pretty much what I was getting with my hybrid Maverick. While it is 191 HP and they don't add the electric motor torque to the 170 or so lbs ft. of torque listed, it does pull harder than most realize. The eCVT puts everything in the torque peak and keeps it there. Doesn't sound like it is doing as much as it it. The really good thing about the hybrid is how quickly it moves when you mash the throttle. No hesitation, just instant response.
I am sure I would have appreciated an Ecoboost for the power. But I had to flat tow so there was no choice. That said, I would order the hybrid again even if not flat towing. You have the benefit of the hybrid setup ALL the time. Not just when the throttle is on the floor!

Jaws, the shark in Finding Nemo, my father and Bob's Maverick - all Bruce's.

I can't speak for the Maverick, but the Escape I had with the eCVT and the 2.5L was AWD as well and I had zero complaints about it's get-up-n'-go

Reality is, these vehicles are within the same butt dyno range. Some people notice a difference, most people won't.

Does not surprise me that you are impressed by the acceleration, it is the same power/torque/engine as a Focus ST! The Maverick just weighs ~600lbs more.

Pretty close to an apples/apples comparison - this is a potent little 2.0. I’ve put many miles on Ecoboost motors(1.0,1.6, 2.0, 2.7). The balance of power/efficiency is truly impressive.

When I originally placed my order it was a tough choice because I knew I would like both and so I ordered one of each - I just wasn’t sure what I would like more…

The Hybrid got delivered first for me. The novelty of it had me hooked quickly! I’m sure I would be happy either way.

Maybe I’ve just owned a series of lackluster engines, but I really do like the zip of the EB AWD - especially in some of the more sticky modes. The most “powerful” truck I’ve owned is my 4.3L S-10, and it isn’t exactly a hot rod :)

Passed a tourist the other day who was going 25 in a 50mph. It was a straight bit of country road. No driveways, no side roads, all distance and is well know as the place to pass tourists. Just for fun I decided to stay in it. Well I now know that the topper and is totally fine at 100.

Hey, it's actually not that bad. Low speed acceleration especially you're not gonna feel like either version is down on power.

Yeah, there was a test carried out awhile back that proved the maverick hybrid's peak tq output is around 260, if only for a few seconds. So that would explain why the two feel similar during short bursts of low end acceleration. The hybrid only really struggled when you're doing 80 plus, which I never am.
