From Ford Authority:
https://fordauthority.com/2022/10/2022-ford-maverick-recalled-over-brake-light-illumination-issue/

Certain units of the 2022 Ford Maverick have been recalled by Ford Motor Company due to a brake light illumination issue.

The problem: in affected vehicles, the brake lights may not illuminate when the brakes have not been applied.

The hazards: unintentional brake lamp illumination may impair the effectiveness of the brake lamps, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

Components: brake lights, antilock brake system (ABS) module.

Affected vehicles: units of the 2022 Ford Maverick that were built at the Hermosillo Assembly plant between February 11th, 2021 and September 5th, 2022.

Number of affected vehicles: 11,098

The fix: a dealership technician will update the ABS module software. This service will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Owners should: wait for communication from Ford, which will begin September 30th, 2022. The Ford reference number for this recall is 22C24.

Say what now? The brake lights won't illuminate with the brakes not applied? That's correct operation.

I guess the real issue is that they may not illuminate when the brakes ARE applied.

This seems to be the same recall that was posted about a few weeks ago, IIRC related to the 4K tow and specifically excluding trucks with adaptive cruise.

Um, no. Seeing as today is not September 5th, 2022, but rather October 15th, 2022? Unless you subscribe to the flawed theory that Ford would not have built even a single unit of this in-demand model for over a month, which to me is impossible to believe.

"Affected vehicles: units of the 2022 Ford Maverick that were built at the Hermosillo Assembly plant between February 11th, 2021 and September 5th, 2022."

Still, this seems like a really basic thing to fuck up. It's not like Ford is new to ABS brakes. To fuck up properly activating the brake lights is disappointing.

February 11th 2021 to September 5th 2022 but only 11098 vehicles affected.
Brake light don't illuminate when brakes are not applied! Lol. Nothing about this makes since or is believable.
