Just spent 3 days running around the Cape Breton Highlands in my Maverick XLT. I’m actually not a huge fan of camping, but typically tenting it puts me closest to the best fishing spots so I grudgingly do it. I used to drive a Focus and then a Mazda 3 hatchback, and while the hatchbacks are handy they fill up quick, especially once you’ve put a decent sized cooler and a bit of fishing gear in them. I was able to load the Maverick up with everything camping and a ton of fishing gear, with lots of room to spare. The truck was comfortable, plenty capable on the steep grades deep in the highlands, and small and nimble enough that there was no issue in some of the tight spots. I even took the Maverick deep into an old washed out service road to get to a backwoods hiking spot and had absolutely no issue with the badly washed out gravel road. And after all this driving up and down the highlands, dirt roads, and plenty of highway driving, I still managed 7.7L/100km (30.5 mpg). I can’t imagine any other vehicle that could give me this kind of utility and comfort for a camping road trip and still giving me 30mpg in challenging conditions. And doing it in style I might add.

Went camping last week. Was a little bit of a challenge with the 2 dogs in the back seat, but we managed to git 'r' done! All the time downs were a blessing as you can see, absolutely perfect!

That’s Big Spruce Brewery, The Sprucetique is their made up name to try to make beer themed t-shirts and Hoodies seem more classy. I wasn’t too worried about the clothing but they do make some absolutely fantastic craft brews and have an awfully nice view for when you’re sampling.

Silver Tart raspberry wheat ale. It’s one of my favourites. And light enough that it makes a 10am start seem reasonable.

I tried their Thirst Trap Apricot Milkshake IPA for the first time this weekend and had very little hope for it but it was amazing, worth trying if you can find some of it.

That one was a brook trout actually, but I certainly found a few browns up there over the weekend.

Also, I agree with that other guy, those wheels are spiffy!

Looks like you were in the Bay St Lawrence area. How was the road getting up?
