Now that's warmed up in Ohio, I have started to use the air conditioning. It seems impossible to regulate. To bring the temp up at all, I have to go to 78 degrees. What am I doing wrong?

Probably not helpful, but I just set mine to "Auto" at a certain temperature and then let it do whatever it feels it needs to do to get there. Other than changing it up or down a couple degrees between maybe 66 and 70, I don't mess with anything else like specific fan speeds or vent selections. I don't turn the AC on or off, don't change it to "recirculate", nothing. It seems to work fine.

If that does not work for you, you might need to have the dealer diagnose by sticking a thermostat probe in all your vents to see what it is actually putting out at each vent. Maybe the mixing system is getting stuck open or closed, etc....

I have noticed this system is not as sophisticated as the one in my Acura was. I fiddle with the dial between 70-74 a LOT. But generally, it gets the job done, and I am thankful we still have dials with tactile feedback. I can grab the dial without looking and rest assured that a “click” is a more or less a degree of temperature change.

The weirdest thing I have noticed is that even with the fan speed turned all the way down, at freeway speeds, a TON of air blows through the vents. It’s as least as much as the highest fan speed. I assume this is because the auto system has turned recirc “off” and the high pressure at the front of the truck is just moving a lot of air into the fresh air intake. It’s not always unwelcome, but not much I can do about it other than start closing vents.

Probably not helpful either, but good luck getting yours working the way you want.

Have you checked the fluid level in the radiator?

I just set mine to 68 and boop the button off when i know i'm coming to a long light to let the engine shut off. I don't really like hyper-advanced systems because they like to try too hard sometime. I actually like the mavericks more manual settings. Especially the wipers. The excessively automatic wipers on the fusion were annoying.

So, kind of related, but check this out. I have 2023 XLT Hybrid, Lux 360 co-pilot. No sync3. When I am driving and my air conditioning or heat is on and the fan is on high and I receive an incoming phone call (plugged in to USB-c port), my fan speed decreases if on a higher setting. It usually decreases to about the first or second red light on the dial, fairly low speed! For the life of me, I can not find anything about how this works in the owners manual. It does assist in hearing the call however so I guess all is good. I forgot, I am using carplay when this happens and am answering or calling hands free over the radio. Will look again in the manual.
Edit: Did some more searching on the MTC here and found a few others who posted this same thing quite some time ago. Odd that this fan behavior is not mentioned in the owners manual.

The big control knob on the right has to be adjusted for cool and hot. You get a short readout on the information screen when you adjust it.

It's hot so you want to raise the temp in your car? I'm missing something here.

Sounds like a dealer visit is in order. No way should your A/C have the issues you say you're having.

I don't understand why Ford doesn't have a vent setting. All the GM vehicles I drove, you could just open the vents, no fan running. The only thing I miss from the Kia rental I was in when I totaled my first Maverick was the vent setting.

It's odd that Ford doesn't specifically mention this in the owner's manual, but could you not just turn off the A/C button and adjust the fan speed to whatever you want? In theory, if you get out of "auto" mode, the compressor should not function unless you switch to defrost. so it is just "vent" air. In "auto" mode I mostly trust the system logic to know when to cool/heat. In Texas there are not enough spring-weather days to fiddle with the system IMHO, but even the simplest "auto" setup should economize itself when active cooling is not needed.

In my case, I have not tried turning the system completely off at freeway speeds to see if I still get a lot of air coming in, but that may act as a "vent" function whether I want it to or not.

The fan still runs. There isn't the option to have just fresh air coming into the cabin without a fan running. I like to hag the vents open when it is a cool morning and it's not high humidity
And you're right, the high speed air conditioning is insane. I feel like i'm in a wind tunnel, even with the fan on the lowest setting

Gotcha. I'm not familiar with the Kia setup, and assumed you wanted a fan blowing unconditioned outside air.

I will have to try it someday, but based on what I'm seeing, I suspect air would be blowing into my truck regardless of the fan being on/off. Sometimes I'm fine with a wind tunnel, but at 70mph, with the fan set to "low," most of the airflow I have cannot possibly be coming from the fan itself pushing it - it is more likely a "ram-air" effect pushing it right past the fan.

GM used to have the same thing you just opened the vents. There was nothing mechanical running at the time. They may still have it. It's been years since I've driven one.
Most of my commute home is in stop and go traffic, except for the last fifteen miles. I can open up and drive. You're 100% correct, It is a massive intake of air coming into the vehicle. The first few times it happened, I looked to see what the fan was set on and to make sure that my unit wasn't on Max. It even does it when you're on recirculate.
