I bought a used 22 XLT Hybrid with 23,000 miles on it. I really like the truck and the gas mileage. But I read all these posts about problems that can keep you stranded. My wife and I are planning a trip about 700+ miles one way to west Texas by big bend and I would like to take the Maverick but I want to enjoy the trip and not worry that the long block goes bad or battery problems. I could take my wife’s Honda HRV but really want to take the Maverick. The truck has worked flawlessly since I bought it and I put about 3,000 miles on it. How concerned should I be?

Go for it, just bring a jump pack and get roadside service. Good luck.

The bad crankshaft issue affects roughly 300 vehicles between all models using the 2.5 Hybrid. - That's not out of just Mavericks, that's 300 or so out from the Maverick, Escape, and Lincoln Corsair Hybrid & PHEV models. (Many thousands produced). It's a low percentage, and most will exhibit the problem well before your 23k miles.)

23,000 miles is just barely broken in.
Fresh full synthetic oil, fresh air filter, fresh cabin filter.
Regular gas,
Hit the road and, Fagetaboutit!

Jeez~o~Pete, I’m glad I don’t go through life worrying about shit.

Have been out that way in much worse and much older vehicles than a Maverick. You’ll be fine.

Side note: I have a hunch that where you’re going is beautiful. If you’re so inclined, share pics when you get back. 🙂

Oye. You will not be hit by an asteroid. You'll be fine. The Maverick will purr happy.

According to Ford, the Maverick only has battery problems when not in use for awhile. I would take that with a boulder of salt and be prepared. Two routes to take; bring along a jump start unit or better yet, just replace the wet cell battery with an AGM. I can pretty much guarantee you won't have any problems with the AGM battery.

Here's the link to a club discussion on the advantages of the AGM battery, where to buy one, and how to install. Either way, have a great trip and post pics. Happy and safe trails.

On my used 2024, I upgraded to 12V Agm, added a Bluetooth battery monitor and used FORScan change SOC to 90%. Don’t make any last minute changes before your trip. Save a few weeks of local driving to debug any maintenance or upgrades before your departure

One nice thing about Ford - which I used recently when my ecoboost went bottoms up... Ford's free roadside assistance. You are covered for 5 years and I think 50,000 miles. Recently had my Maverick towed 30 miles from home to dealership free. Not even Ford's fault - rodents chewed through the wire harness.

I think roadside assistance conveys to new owners with the truck. I don't know that for sure.

People can advise to worry or not worry as much as they want, and it means nothing. We are either Oscars or Felixes (The Odd Couple). Worriers or not. No amount of reassurance will change that elementary psychological trait.
