So, I'm planning (at this point) on getting a hybrid, and one of the things I'm considering doing is using it to pull light campers. Definitely nothing over 2k loaded, but anyway. Almost every camper nowadays requires a 7-pin and a brake controller, even if they only weigh like 800#.

Has anyone figured out how to mod a hybrid, or really any Maverick that didn't come with the 4k package, from a 4-pin to a 7-pin? And if possible, enable the onboard trailer brake controller? If you did, can you please share? What part numbers did you order/use?

They make adapters to go from 4 to 7 pin

Yeah, I saw that one too. It's old, doesn't have instructions, and doesn't mention whether or not the brake controller can actually be enabled with FORSCAN.
Are you sure there is a controller on Non-4K Ecoboost?

I don’t think Forscan is going help.

I think you will have to add your own brake controller and seven pin receiver.

Correct. The brake controller is hardware not software. But on the stock ones you need a software update if you want to see brake controller info on the dash. For me, I'm planning to use an aftermarket brake controller and 7 pin connector. Aftermarket is easier; better; and cheaper. Win-win-win.

Highly recommend this: same units have been sold for 15 years.
I used this on my hybrid escape and 29 foot motorhome. Works with any vehicle. I plan to use it on my Mav.

Tekonsha P3 $150. Way better than Ford OEM (which you probably can't put in a hybrid anyway ).

Uh, wow. Kind of a necro here.

I ended up ordering FWD, so I'm having the dealer install one. That way if something acts up, it's their guy who did it instead of me, and it'll preserve the warranty.

"Red Arc brake controllers". I tried to put a link to the website, and it kept taking me to welders.

Think about this. Curt has a relay that has plugs into tail lights left and right that requires a 12v wire (how about from 30amp aftermarket controller fuze) to rear of truck for power. And has 7 pin plug. Curt also has a WiFi trailer brake controller that plugs into the 7 pin on the vehicle then the trailer 7 pin plugs into it. The wifi controller has an app for your phone which you can select which vehicle and which trailer you have and settings etc are saved. Super easy to change from each combination. Curt stuff also available at etrailer and others. I am going to use the 30 amp circuit for power at times.

If you have the 4-pin on the rear, use this. Worked well for me. Gives you both 4 pin and 7 pin.

Blue wire for brakes. I only had to run one wire (I weaved it in and out of existing holes and frame members, then there is a rubber grommet under the rear seats to feed the wire from the exterior to interior of the truck.) I did not utilize the reverse lamp wire or the aux charging wire. None of my trailers need it. But the wire pigtail is ready for future use if I ever want to.

Thank you for posting. I am planning on doing the same. I have a little 9 foot travel trailer that has brakes. I would like to use the charging cable though to charge the battery while towing. Which brake controller did you go with?
