Over the weekend Long McArthur Ford entered 600+ Maverick Orders. If FORD had the capacity they could probably sell 500K+ Mavericks / year. If they had a plug in hybrid option it would probably double that.
Imagine that. Ford was selling that many Rangers back in the day. Then they decided no one wanted a small truck anymore. Suddenly they are caught by surprise that scads of folks want a small truck. Many of us here could have told them that and most of us are not even in the industry.

I was the first at my Ford dealer to order my23 Maverick. I tried to do so in Jan 22 and they said as soon as they heard the banks would open, they'd call me, and I was told I was the second person to answer their calls, the first guy would be there in a half hour. I said I'm on my way. I blew across town on the Kawasaki and got there ahead. We filled out all the forms and a day later got an acceptance email direct from Ford. They then sent out a list already of items that may slow down a build and none of them are in my order. Fingers crossed.

That's not what things looked like when they discontinued the compact Ranger

https://www.motortrend.com/news/so-long-partner-ford-ranger-production-to-end-december-19-94295/ said:
Up until it was ousted by the Toyota Tacoma in 2005, the Ford Ranger led the compact pickup truck segment for 18 years. At its peak in 1999, the Ranger sold 348,358 units. After 2006, however, sales fell below 100,000 units per year and never recovered since. Part of the reason for the Ranger's decline is Ford's decision to put more resources and attention into the larger F-150, which last month saw nearly seven times the sales volume of the Ranger. Receiving few revisions since its introduction, the Ranger became dated. Unlike other compact trucks on the market, the Ranger never adopted the crew cab body style, or received any major engine upgrades throughout its life. Although a new Ranger model is planned for other markets, built in Thailand and South Africa, the U.S. won't get that vehicle due to costly import tariffs and Ford's belief that the market for small pickups in the U.S. is becoming ever slimmer.

"The segment has shrunk dramatically," said Doug Scott, Ford's truck marketing manager, to The Detroit News. "In 2000, the compact pickup segment was about 1 million units, and this year that segment will be lucky to be 250,000 or 300,000 units."

I'm a little annoyed we can't enter our orders ourselves and we're stuck at the mercy of dealerships.
State laws. Mine are so strict Tesla never bothered to open a showroom.

Truck sales collapsed during the Great Recession? Imagine that.

The problem the ranger had then is the same problem it has now, it is too close to an F-150 in price and fuel mileage to make it a vailable option.

Hi..
1.) Ordered/deposit submitted Thu 15 Sep, afternoon. (...trouble entering due to congestion).
(Salesman already had my ID and my D/L.)

2.) Received/signed/returned Ford 'Preview Order' Fri Sep 16 around 11AM Pacific via email.

3.) "Order confirmation" received from Ford Fri 16 Sep at 4:30PM Pacific.

Everything looks good with what I ahve. Is there any other paperwork I should (re)verify, request,
or re-check just to ensure I'm "fully ordered"?

Or "am I good"?

Also have to consider that by the mid 2000s the Ranger was no longer a "small truck". Everything kept getting bigger and bigger to the point where a new Ranger was the same size as an older model F150. My step-dad had a Ranger back in the late 1980s and it was about the same size as what a Maverick is today.

I just did a chat session and the Ford rep was able to use my sales code and order code (from my pre-order sheet) to confirm Ford received the order. You'd think they'd provide a website to do all that automatically.

A Maverick is much bigger than an '80's Ranger. If anything it's only a touch shorter (4") and otherwise larger than a second or third gen Ranger. And a third gen SuperCab Ranger is only getting close to an F-150 if you're comparing a regular cab; the F-150 is still taller and much wider by almost 10".

What the industry missed is that many of us who own older homes don't have garages big enough for an F-150.
My mom lives in a gated townhome complex built in the late 1960s or early 1970s. They have two car garages attached to the homes. One of her neighbors this year bought a RAM pickup. He had to take what he could find on the lot and was lucky to get it.

Drove it home and found out it didn't fit in the garage. He ended up moving the garage wall back about a foot so one of their bedrooms is now smaller.

I ordered today at 10:30am (ET). I have not received the confirmation from Ford yet either.
Have you received the email yet? I ordered at 12:30 (ET) and have not.

I just chatted with Ford Customer service. They were able to check on my order and confirmed it.

this hurt them bad in my opinion
from the article above
”Unlike other compact trucks on the market, the Ranger never adopted the crew cab body style, or received any major engine upgrades throughout its life.”

Once crew cabs became the norm…who in the world would want a extended cab? Being behind design wise just killed them.

I placed an order with Mullinax Ford of New Smyrna Saturday and was assured the order would be entered with Ford that day. It wasn't and still hasn't been. It's sitting in a big stack waiting its turn.

I've now e-mailed Ashlie at Chapman in the hopes they are more efficient. I really hate dealing with car sales people.
not sure how you feel about a 2hr drive but benson ford in Easley SC has been incredible to work with. Jon Fisher (sales manager) and his assistant Yosvany are legit. I’m in Charleston SC and ordered with them and have a 3hr drive when it arrives.
