25 MPG for a small truck with AWD and TOWING etc is just fine by me.
Same here. My first-gen Mazda3 was EPA rated for 22/29 and I got around 27-28 tank averages (hand calculated), but I attribute that to most of my commute at the time being 55mph 2-lane roads.

I remember thinking back then when I bought the car (2007ish?) that I just wanted a fuel-efficient 4x4 truck. Now to see the Maverick get the same fuel economy as that little FWD hatchback and have some creature comforts is a wish come true!

I was looking at used trucks and nothing came close to this one for MPG including most of the diesels.
My 5 speed element will get like 25 around town abut only 22 highway

When it comes to towing, the 2.0EB AWD owners are going to get a surprise. Have any of you checked out the 2.0EB under towing conditions?

When you cite 'highway', what speed do you drive at? If you have a strong gas pedal foot, and like 70+ mph, drop back to between 65-68ish. Likely gain 5-6 mpg. That seems to be a 'critical point' for most sorta-boxy vehicles.
I can get 28 in a 2007 Mariner(Escape) 3.0, wife gets 23-24, maybe. States she cannot drive at the speed limit or below. Even using cruise. Same trip, same day, roughly same terrain. What. Ever.

@ 80 mph/final drive buzzing @k4 rmp's- In Utah you are not allowed to drive under 80 on the highways :)

My 2016 Ford Focus ST has the 2.0 L Ecoboost and I use 87 octane and still get over 250 HP, thou I do have a Mishimoto intercooler , and a 3" exhaust. I get a 25 mpg combined city/highway. And when I drive from Port Richey Fl to North Port Fl at 75 + mph I get 32 mpg. The ST is rated at 155mph but I have only had mine up to 135 mph on I-75. So I think Ford will govern the ecoboost alittle.

How much for the 3" exhaust and Mishimoto intercooler installed price? Does that setup void the warranty? How long have you had it on your car?

The exhaust is a catback, got it on Amazon $500 cost $150 to install at PEPBOYS, Intercooler cost $573 on Amazon installed myself. Neither voids the warranty as there is no tune done and they don't change the the drive train, only increases the the air flow through the engine. By the way PEPBOYS will install aftermarket part fairly reasonable. You can see my car in the showcase.

I found the fuel economy calculator to be kind of bogus actually. It said my 94 chevy C1500 with 5.7L and 5 speed manual trans got only 18 highway. I know that's waaaay off. When it was new I did MPG calculations the old skool way and used to knock down 25 highway. Even as old as it is and with 160K on it I still recorded 23.5 MPG freeway speeds of 75 mph on my last 2.5 hour road trip to Summit Racing warehouse in Arlington Tx.

Those numbers are way off on my 2007 mustang GT 4.6L 5 speed as well. My last Road trip was 3,800 miles with this thing averaged 27.5 MPG on mpg computer averaging 75 mph, and my old skool math backed that figure up.

The numbers on the 2008 chevy HHR are spot on however. It is a 2.2L 5 speed and I drive it like a sports car. I fuel up, set the trip, zero the MPG computer and get a combined average of 25 MPG.

This being said your MPG will vary as people change tire diameters, drive these things differently, use different grades of fuel. All my figures were got using regular grade 87 octane fuel. The Mustang GT does not require premium fuel to get its 300hp figure. It says to use 87 so that's what I use. Ny pickup is supposed to use 89 octane, but I dump 87 in it. Engine doesnt ping on it.

This being said, the maverick AWD is a much much more capable vehicle than the FWD Chevy HHR it replaces in terms of go anywhere in snow (not that FWD is bad, but AWD is better) the 2.0T engine is smaller, but has waaay more power than that 2.2. 250hp compared to 175hp. Plus a larger cabin seating area, a useable truck bed, and 4K towing capability. Gonna keep my HHR as a spare vehicle though.
